deifinitely, i was going to say so. It's got to be that if you think about it. It's in reference to "when i'm not being honest...", meaning that even when all that time has passed, he'll still know she was the one he was meant to love, or whatever, and also that the method he has at the moment to try to forget her isn't very good, wondering whether after all that time he will hace accomplished anything. It's my favourite out of the new album, really absolutely beautiful, as are the ones from submarine. |

Agreed, beautiful. Alex is a genious. Love the bit where he says: "those twinkling vixens, with the shining spiral eyes, their hypnosis goes unnoticed when she's walking by." Pretty obvious what the song is about. Can't wait to buy the album! soon soon xx |

Am I the only one here who actually thinks it's him dumping her for another girl, not the other way around? If she was dumping him why would she feel the need to send him dead flowers? And why would he be getting married? I think that even though he's leaving her -for this other girl, who can take his pain away (the pain from their relationship not working out)- he'll always care for her, which is why when she dies from her own addiction to heroin he will go and put roses on her grave. Obviously she is rich: "silk upholstered chair", "rich folk that you know", "rose pink cadillac", it's all there. But possibly she's rich because she's an actress? I read somewhere that putting roses on one's grave was what people did with famous actors (although I'm not 100% on that). And it IS quite frequent for actors and actresses and famous people in general to be on drugs, despite their superiority to the rest of the population. I get what you're all saying about her leaving him but I really wouldn't understand the purpose of her sending HIM dead flowers unless he'd done something really awful to her, which I think would be in the song if that were the case, don't you? |

I think it's quite straightforward too -though I'm not entirely sure that what I'm understanding is right- rather than it having a hidden meaning. But I have to say that to me it doesn't seem like she's left him rather he left her, otherwise, if he was so in love with her, why would he be saying "send me dead flowers to my wedding" and then "say it with dead flowers at my wedding", like she's pissed off at him? Although he does say he won't forget to put roses on her grave, to me it seems that what he's trying to say is that she will die before him because she's in deeper shit than he is. Also the red roses thing plus the "rich folk that you know" plus the "rose pink cadillac" make it sound like she's rich, an actress maybe. To me it sounds like they're both junkies, and he's going to marry someone else, which is why she's sending him dead flowers, as if she's really hurt about it and hates him for it. Again, I might be completely wrong about this, but it makes sense to me... If you think there's something I'm missing here please point it out; I would really like to know exactly what the song is about. And I agree, BEAUTIFUL song! |

| Actually, I get the feeling it's about him, a junkie ("I'll be in my basement room with a needle and a spoon"), leaving his girlfriend who isn't pleased about it (hence her sending him dead flowers), who is also a junkie ("I know you think you're the queen of the Underground") because he's in love with another girl to whom he's getting married ("send me dead flowers at my wedding"). I also think the ex-girlfriend he's talking about is a famous actress because of the "rich folk that you know", the "rose pink cadillac" and especially the "roses on your grave", which, incidentally, is another reason for my thinking she is also a junkie -like he thinks she will die before him cause she has problems with drugs-, but I might be completely wrong. | |

I agree with wadems. Rather than the relationship having ended, it seems like what he's saying is that he is with this girl, but feels it's coming to an end, and that she will go back to an old lover. (Why would she care about keeping him calm if they weren't together?) "I can't help if I create a version that pulls you back into his arms", which I take to meaning they used to be together, before Alex. Also the fact that he says "that he painted you a gushing sunset and slayed angry panthers in your defence" is in past tense makes me think that he is an ex-boyfriend rather than a present one. I'm not sure though, because he does seem to imply form the very start that they're not together anymore, what do you think? and what does the chorus mean? |
