| Dio – King of Rock and Roll Lyrics

|
I remember reading in the liner notes to the Dio Anthology that this one was about Ozzy. It also applies to Elvis, as well. Really, any musician or singer who lights a fire under people and creates controversy. |

| Rainbow – Stargazer Lyrics
|
I interpret this one as a warning against having blind faith in the promises of anyone, even if they look like they know what they are doing. Because the wizard was able to give the impression that he was capable of fulfilling his promise of flight, the people empowered him and were willing to have themselves enslaved towards the goal of seeing his miracle. Then when it came time for him to actually perform, he smashes to the ground. All the work, all the sacrifices, all the suffering of the people was for nothing.
There isn't enough time in the world to list the number of times this has happened throughout history. The message of Stargazer is simply don't be a sheep- hold everything to the light of logic and reason, and hold even those you believe in to accountability.
Also, it fucking rocks and Dio's vocals here are superhuman. |

| Dio – Master of the Moon Lyrics
|
|
I seem to remember reading somewhere that he said the Moon was a metaphor for darkness, and all the things that society as a whole tends to look down upon. So by declaring himself Master of the Moon, he is embracing his individuality, and rejecting conformity. |

The meaning to this song and the rest of the tunes from Magica is apparent if you listen to the story track at the end of the album, or read it in the liner notes or online somewhere. |

| Dio – Killing The Dragon Lyrics
|
|
This one's a song about overcoming rulers who abuse and take more than they give, and seeing technology in the same light. Also, I think the line is "Moors' been empty for years" |

| Black Sabbath – Shadow of the Wind Lyrics

|
Love this tune, and so glad I got to hear it played live. Iommi's sludge riffing suits Dio's sinister vocal style on this one perfectly, which is probably why they reran the same formula twice on The Devil You Know with "Atom and Evil" and "Breaking Into Heaven" |

| Black Sabbath – Bible Black Lyrics

Pretty sure it's "I've found addiction / And it makes me feel alive". I don't think this one has too much underlying meaning, just a cool Lovecraftian tale about a book of evil consuming a man's soul. |

The Scorpions always do a great job with their fan appreciation songs. Killer show starter, too. |

| Scorpions – Humanity Lyrics
|
|
I've viewed this one as being about humanity as a whole, as it bookends the album nicely with Hour 1, and is a good summation of the record's themes of government, organized religion, and even love failing in the face of ego and refusing to acknowledge reality. |

| Scorpions – Love Is War Lyrics
|
|
This one is about the bitter recrimination period right after the end of a nasty breakup. The best Scorpions album since Love at First Sting, though they regrettably backslid hard with Sting In the Tail. |

| Scorpions – Make It Real Lyrics

Which is probably a big reason for the lack of posts on Scorps songs here. The meanings are usually pretty obvious. |

| Scorpions – The Cross Lyrics

|
This one is clearly a shot at the Catholic church and the massive culture of abuse they've fostered, presented through the POV of one of the abused standing up publicly against the offending preist. A great song, and Corgan adds nicely to it. |

| Scorpions – The Future Never Dies Lyrics

Sensing a rift and the likely demise of a relationship, but trying to bring her back with the possibility that things might be better tomorrow. Humanity is a vastly underrated, heartbreaking album. |

| Scorpions – We Will Rise Again Lyrics
|
I always heard that line as- "Your temptation is my sin / Now my darkest demons win"
I interpret this one as the catastrophic collapse of a relationship- being unable to walk away and end things smoothly, instead holding on desperately and riding it down in flames. |

| Queensrÿche – The Whisper Lyrics

This tune is one of the few times when I love a song but haven't the foggiest idea what it's about. The rolling main riff and the vocals from Geoff are spectacular. An absolute essential for any Queensryche fan's music library. |

Absolutely a BDSM tune, but it sounds enough like a normal love song on the surface that you can sneak it by nearly anyone. |

| Queensrÿche – The Chase Lyrics

Love the "We circle around each other waiting for reaction" part. Great harmonizing between two of the best vocalists in the history of rock. Just wish I could have heard them do the same back in the 80s, when they were at the top of their game. |

| Queensrÿche – Re-Arrange You Lyrics

It's about Nikki tracking down Dr. X, and wondering for the first time what he'll do after he gets his revenge. One of the hardest-rocking tracks on the album, and my personal favorite of the Dio-less tracks. |

| Queensrÿche – Breaking The Silence Lyrics
| 15 years ago
|
Definitely his reaction to finding Mary dead, and I take this one as Nikki spending the day in catatonic silence, then completely snapping, wandering through the night screaming her name and probably babbling nonsense in between, his grief and the broken mind control combining to leave him broken and detached from reality for the night, unable to tell the difference between reality and things popping up in his head.
Damn that's a bunch of commas. |

Pretty much what happens if you cross Mad Max with Danny Trejo's character from Desperado. 100% undistilled awesome. |

| Judas Priest – The Ripper Lyrics

The original is on Sad Wings of Destiny, but I've always vastly preferred the version on Unleashed in the East. Otherworldly vocals, and the quicker tempo improves an already great tune. |

| Judas Priest – Exciter Lyrics
|
I've always thought this one was about the ability of powerful, scorching music to snap people out of dull complacency. Hidden beneath a pretty badass tune about an otherworldly figure with pyrokinesis, of course, because simply saying "music is good because it can energize you and bring some perspective to your life" isn't particularly metal.
One of the few songs where I can't decide whether I like the original or the live recording better. Both are 10's. |

| Judas Priest – Eat Me Alive Lyrics

I always interpreted the "gunpoint" bit as more playing with innuendo than meant to be taken literally. Crude sexual metaphor seems more Priest-like than writing a song about rape. |

| Judas Priest – Demonizer Lyrics

Great vocal performance by Halford on this one.
For me, this sounds like a second account of the events of "Painkiller", letting us know exactly what it is that the Painkiller came to save humanity from and lending some more imagery to the event.
I like the Gideon reference better than using the second coming of Jesus, as Gideon was a more violent figure in Christian mythology than Christ, and as such is better suited to the subject matter at hand. According to Wikipedia (the source of all wisdom), Gideon translates to "Destroyer" or "Mighty warrior," which would suit a figure riding a monstrous bike with sawblade wheels. |
