This is pretty obviously about sex. Probably about a very rocky relationship. Here's simplifying what I believe this song is about. The singer considers himself to be a bad guy (possibly uses people just for sex, it's a good song for villains). But the chick he's with is sending him mixed signals. 'As I begin to loose my grip on these realities you're sending'. Wondering 'Does she love me? Do I care if she does?' Him falling in love with her 'Why would you offer more? Why would you make it easier on me to satisfy?'. But both parties being very aware that the relationship is a bad one. It's a very lustful song. Very romantic in the dirtiest, worst of ways :) Gotta love it. |

Holy cow. I NEVER imagined this being about a solider. That's just, my mind is blown right now and I'm for whatever reason tearing up right now. I listened to this song a LOT when I was drifting apart from my boyfriend. We weren't fighting, he was a great man, but for whatever reason, I just felt like I needed to get away. So I just left. So to me, the song sorta encompassed the fact that I was realizing that I really didn't love him like I thought I did, and that he was 'long gone'. And that 'I wake up' meaning I'm realizing that I really didn't love him. 'It's a bad dream', meaning that suddenly I was going to have to break his heart (god he loved me so much), and I always thought I had the 'fighting' spirit, but realized 'well apparently I just can't do it'. So, basically, I saw this song being more like someone who is flighty and free-spirited coming to terms that they are being held down in their relationship. 'Why do I have to fly? ...I'll die in the clouds', 'I was born to hate' - Meaning, love is too restricting for their personality. But a lot of the song is also about how that free-spirited person is pained by the fact that they have to leave all that behind. A'course, people read themselves into song lyrics. I love reading people's different interpretations :D |

This place is called song meanings, it's annoying seeing so many people just sayin 'Oh ya I like these guys' xD I mean, yeah they're great, but come on! My dad says they're 'Artistically Emo' xD A lot of their songs to me seem like they're about maturing and coming to terms to the real world. This song in particular seems to be a mix of things. I think one way to look at it, is that it's about someone learning to deal with a loved one's death (a lingering one, probably, like cancer). That, or someone dealing with a loved one who's either suffering from Alzheimer's or a worsening mental illness. When you meet someone who has a severe mental illness, they seem to 'wander in their own lands', and it really makes you try to understand yourself and what's going on around you. Whether it's crazier to 'stay in the game', or to make a change in yourself to take a different path. So one way to look at is, is that this song is about someone who is realizing for the first time that their ideals go against what they've actually been doing their entire life. I also like to think of it as being about someone who has lost a very close friend by just growing apart, and trying to figure out how to deal with the changes. That's why I love keane so much. Their lyrics are beautiful, their melodies are haunting and emotional, and I can never tell if I should feel happy and inspired, or depressed and hopeless. I love that gray area. :3 |
