Muse – Time Is Running Out Lyrics 15 years ago
but if u take a look at the actual music video i think that paints a picture of world domination and the global leaders controlling the world aspect. His POV lyrics could be in the eyes of all people but especially power hungry world leaders and the you are the lower classes rising up and the "it" is power in general. and representing all people especially world leaders he doesnt want to get rid of it but he realizes that as all people across all socioeconomic groups are starting to question their places and those in charge realize that their power is coming to an end and they dont want to accept this so theyre taking it very badly.

I won't let you bury it
I won't let you smother it
I won't let you murder it
Our time is running out
Our time is running out
You can't push it underground
You can't stop it screaming out

I wanted freedom
Bound and restricted
I tried to give you up
But I'm addicted

it sounds almost like a self-reckoning if u take Bellamy as being the world leaders and the "you" being people rising up because the former realizes that they cant have "it" for much longer before it gets buried and the world becomes a freer more equal place, with the "it" standing for need for power. if you take the latter parts of the lyrics as Bellamy standing for world powers it looks like this: He says that he never had bad intentions when he took the power but he did it just to help and then it slowly started becoming addicting until they were addicted to the power and dont want to let it go to be "murdered" and "buried".

Obviously this isnt very mainline and a lot of people will probably disagree i feel like it could be plausible. I largely took into account Matt Bellamy's very political messages in some of his songs especially assassin and uprising but here too i think it is a political message as shown by the music video. As a Georgian Libertarian he is very opposed to strong governments and wants instead more individual freedom by a deconstructing of the government at all levels.

but the thing about these kinds of songs is that they can mean anything and thats the beauty of it that it doesn't have to mean one thing that it can mean a lot of things for different people and that's the true brilliance of a song like this.
