Gareth has explicitly stated that this song is a tribute to "Cherylee" by Gowns, the last song on that band's only album (Red State; it's an amazing record and one Los Camp fans should check out). The melody of the first part of "Coda" (Run the water...I knew everything) almost exactly matches the melody of the second half of "Cherylee", both songs end with a screamed affirmation, and they share themes of reflection and regret. |
