I love this song! "I'm damaged bad at best" is one of my favorites lines in any of his songs.
This song is about relationships. I think it's about a girl he is in love with who doesn't return the feelings. Maybe they are friends with benefits and he is really falling in love with her and that is complicating their relationship or he is holding back his feeling because he knows he is "Damaged bad at best". Or she is sleeping with him and doesn;t really want a relationship "I'm in love with the world through the eyes of a girl who is still around the morning after" She stays after they sleep together. "I could be another fool or an exception to the rule" "Say yes" mweaning he really likes her and is pleading with her to not just make him another one of her conquests and actually say yes and make what they have into a relationship |

Definitly a song about drugs. I also think it has undertones of someone's struggles to stay clean and how they feel like they aren't enough without the high of the drug. That although they are being destructive by abusing drugs they really can't feel good enough when they are clean. |

Such a beautiful song. His voice is so amazing. I love this song. I definitly see this song as a realtionship song. That this song is about someone in love with someone else but they already have a lover/"baby". It's definitly like someone mentions a call/response song. It's how I've always taken it. |

Elliott Smith is the most amazing musical lyricist I have listened to. His voice is so calm and he never yells or has a hard edge to his tone even when swearing...his tone is just so beautiful and I could listen to his voice all day. This song when I lsiten to it is definitly a suicide note if I've ever heard one...and a song about drug use. "I can't prepare for death anymore than I already have"
"Because i took my own insides out" I took this as he feels like exposing himself through his music he is exposing us to his pain and struggles and basically showing us what struggles he faces inside.

Brett Detar has the most magical voice. TJT will always be my favorite band even if they arent together. Their music has helped me get through a lot of personal stuff. This song is so beautiful and depressing at the same time. Sometimes when I miss my fiancee I listen to this song because even though I wish he was here we always say goodnight to each other right before we fall asleep. |

From what I've heard it's definitly about an abortion. "The deepest embraces creation" and "In one night you made me your own. In one hour you gave me away to the angels. You sent me out to sky now their wings fan the heat from the face you'll never touch, the hair you'll never smell the LITTLE hands you'll never hold" If that was anymore about abortion it would slap you in the face. This song makes me cry it's just so heart wrenching. |
