This song obviously symbolizes loneliness. And when asked "how are you?", it's so easy to say, "i'm ok", instead of going into details. Then the person says, "are you sure?..you don't look too happy"....Then you respond, "No really, I'm ok....honestly, ok." Sounds like she's wilfully, but regretfully isolating herself. |

I'm hearing this song in a whole different way now. I always imagined that she was speaking to her mate about their short of perfect relationship, but convincing him that they're still good for each other. However, after reading several comments, I've taken on a new understanding.... It sounds as if it's a two-person dialogue.... (What HE is telling her about herself and the relationship): I don't touch you the way I used to And I don't call and write when I'm away We don't make love as often as we did do Couldn't wait, now waits and it usually goes away (What SHE is now saying in answer/defense of how he feels): But listen and think when I say it Oh but listen and think when I say it Who makes you feel the way that I make you feel Who loves you and knows you the way I do Who touches you and holds you quite like I do Who makes you feel like I make you feel And the same goes for the following verses and chorus. Truth is, men say they don't like their woman asking after their whereabouts, but honestly, they get concerned if she doesn't. At least they feel cared for when she inquires where they've been. Maybe the guy in this song was feeling neglected or ignored by her, but she's trying to assure him that is not the case. |
