My take on the meaning is that it's a song about pursuing your dream in the face of doubt and naysayers. "will i wake up is it a dream i made up no i guess it's reality what will change us or will we mess up our only chance to connect with a dream" Generally daydreams are about things we want. He's hoping that he won't wake up and be disappointed to find out that his possibly life-changing pursuit will not have been real. "say a prayer for me i'm buried by the sound in a world of human wreckage i'm lost and i'm found and i can't touch the ground i'm plowed into the sound" He asks for those around him to wish him luck in his pursuit, because he knows the sound of those with broken dreams who will inevitably attempt to dissuade him can be deafening. The further and closer he gets to accomplishing his dream, the more opposition he may face, but presses on nonetheless. "to see wide open with a head that's broken hang a life on a tragedy plow me under the ground that covers the message that is the seed" He knows that even getting closer, that dwelling on failure is how self doubt begins. Doubt that could cause him to give up his cause, accept defeat, and join the rest of those who have abandoned their hopes & dreams. "will i wake up is it a dream i made up no i guess it's reality" The songs ends with him having made his original dream a reality. |

My take is that it's a song about her having something weighing on her mind, daydreaming/brainstorming, and coming up with a personal resolution that makes sense to her. "Yet my fingertips Have a special sound Yet my fingertips They go around and round ": the sound of her pen/pencil as she absentmindedly writes doodles while thinking of something. "This comical wisdom Creeps into my brain A wave of my nerve And oh so free of pain": she has one of those "why didn't I think of that?" type realizations and she feels how it's getting her one step closer to resolving what's on her mind. "Electrical current Hallowed be the name Lift my emotions And banish all my shame": the neurons are finally firing away in her mind and the pieces of the puzzle are finally coming together. she's elated and feeling that her frustrations (and any embarrassments) from not being able to resolve her problem earlier are now going away. "Yet my fingertips Have a special sound Yet my fingertips Smell of sodden ground": with her solution in mind, she's ready to get her hands dirty in it's implementation; one that will require a 'blood, sweat, and tears' effort level. "Before I can open my all to eager eyes (all to eager eyes) Everything changes from the oceans to the skies": in the blink of an eye, she's come up with a solution to what's been plaguing her, and that solution's changing her perspective on everything. |
