| The Killers – Mr. Brightside Lyrics | 13 years ago |
"I'm coming out of my cage And I've been doing just fine" He's a shy person who's doing really well at breaking out of his shell. Gotta gotta be down Because I want it all He has to be down to do anything because there is something he wants. It started out with a kiss How did it end up like this It was only a kiss, it was only a kiss He met a girl and their relationship started out with a kiss, but led to something bigger. Now I'm falling asleep And she's calling a cab While he's having a smoke And she's taking a drag Now they're going to bed And my stomach is sick The girl is leaving him and taking a cab to another guy's house. And it's all in my head But she's touching his chest Now, he takes off her dress Now, letting me go He can picture in his head them having sex and her letting him go. I just can't look its killing me And taking control Jealousy, turning saints into the sea Swimming through sick lullabies Choking on your alibis But it's just the price I pay Destiny is calling me Open up my eager eyes Cause I'm Mr Brightside He can't look at them together because it's making him lose his mind. Jealousy is driving him crazy, turning things that were good and he used to enjoy into bad and scary things. He's choking on the excuses she's made about why they can't be together. He's always looking at the pessimistic side of things, and he needs to hear some good new. He sarcastically calls himself "Mr. Brightside" |

| Eagles – Desperado Lyrics | 13 years ago |
Desperado, why don't you come to your senses? You been out ridin' fences for so long now Oh, you're a hard one I know that you got your reasons These things that are pleasin' you Can hurt you somehow I think this part of the song is addressing that Desperado has been kind of wandering around, never really fully committing himself to anything. He uses having a lot of heartbreak and hard times in his past as an excuse for being emotionally kind of unavailable. The things that he's doing at this point in his life are not setting him up for happiness in his future. Don't you draw the queen of diamonds, boy She'll beat you if she's able You know the queen of hearts is always your best bet This part is telling him not to choose the showiest girl who appears to be the most beautiful, because if she'll break his heart. The girl who really cares about him and has a big heart is a better choice. Now it seems to me, some fine things Have been laid upon your table But you only want the ones that you can't get A lot of good things (possibly the Queen of Hearts?) have been put in front of him, but he would rather have the Queen of Diamonds because she is more beautiful. Desperado, oh, you ain't gettin' no younger Your pain and your hunger, they're drivin' you home And freedom, oh freedom well, that's just some people talkin' Your prison is walking through this world all alone Desperado is too old to be like this. His heartbreak and his hunger for true love are causing him to change his ways. He says he wants to not be tied down to a girl so he can be free, but the reality is that he's already tied down, walking around the world all alone. Don't your feet get cold in the winter time? The sky won't snow and the sun won't shine It's hard to tell the night time from the day You're losin' all your highs and lows Ain't it funny how the feeling goes away? This part asks Desperado if he ever feels lonely when he's walking around all by himself. The weather in the second line represents change, as in the way things are going, they won't ever change. It's hard to tell the good times from the bad anymore because they're too similar. Desperado, why don't you come to your senses? Come down from your fences, open the gate It may be rainin', but there's a rainbow above you You better let somebody love you, before it's too late Desperado needs to realize that he has to let himself love again. He needs to break down his walls and let people in. It may not look very good now but things are getting better. He has to change his ways and let someone love him before he wastes the rest of his life like that. |

| OneRepublic – Marchin' On Lyrics | 13 years ago |
| For the "I'd sink us to swim" part, I think it means that he would be willing to go through really difficult times (to "sink") as long as it meant later, they'd "swim" and be happy and things would be better. | |
| Train – Drops of Jupiter Lyrics | 13 years ago |
"Now that she's back in the atmosphere With drops of Jupiter in her hair, hey, hey" This girl went away for a while. She's come back now, and she still bears the evidence of her journey somehow. "She acts like summer and walks like rain Reminds me that there's time to change, hey, hey" She is now warm and bright and happy. He is reminded of rain because she is graceful and very beautiful. This change in her has now reminded him that it's not too late to be different. "Since the return from her stay on the moon She listens like spring and she talks like June, hey, hey" Since she's come back, she's become a whole different person. She listens to everything he says dreamily and has amazing stories to tell. "Tell me did you sail across the sun Did you make it to the Milky Way to see the lights all faded And that heaven is overrated" He is wondering if she went to the places that she'd dreamed of and realized that they weren't as amazing as she thought. "Tell me, did you fall from a shooting star One without a permanent scar And did you miss me while you were looking for yourself out there" He is wondering if she fell for a guy that would just be in and out of her life like a shooting star, that doesn't bear the emotional scars that he does. "Now that she's back from that soul vacation Tracing her way through the constellation, hey, hey She checks out Mozart while she does tae-bo Reminds me that there's room to grow, hey, hey" Now that's she back from her journey, trying to find herself, she's changed a lot. She has different interests. He's reminded a person can grow mentally and spiritually. "Now that she's back in the atmosphere I'm afraid that she might think of me as plain ol' Jane Told a story about a man who is too afraid to fly so he never did land" He is afraid she might think he's boring now that he's been to so many cool places and met interesting people. He's afraid the whole time she was gone, she was telling people of this guy back home who is too afraid to actually do anything with his life so he just floats around, being no one special. "Tell me did the wind sweep you off your feet Did you finally get the chance to dance along the light of day And head back to the milky way And tell me, did Venus blow your mind Was it everything you wanted to find And did you miss me while you were looking for yourself out there" He's wondering if everything was as perfect as she thought it would be and if she missed him while she was looking for herself. "Can you imagine no love, pride, deep-fried chicken Your best friend always sticking up for you even when I know you're wrong Can you imagine no first dance, freeze dried romance five-hour phone Conversation The best soy latte that you ever had, and me" He wonders if she misses their friendship, his pride in her, little pieces of home. He wonders if he misses all the little things that happened between them. He's hopes she misses him. "Tell me did the wind sweep you off your feet Did you finally get the chance to dance along the light of day And head back toward the Milky Way" He is asking her if she was swept off her feet by the "amazing" places she went. "And are you lonely looking for yourself out there?" He wonders if she felt a little lonely without him around. "Tell me did you sail across the sun Did you make it to the milky way to see the lights all faded And that heaven is overrated Tell me, did you fall from a shooting star One without a permanent scar And did you miss me while you were looking for yourself out there?" He wonders of she did all the things she wanted and if everything was as she expected. He hopes she missed him when she was exploring her great perhaps. |

| fun. – We Are Young Lyrics | 13 years ago |
| This song makes me think of best friends. They got drunk one night and had sex and he kind of just left her hanging. He sees her again when he's out with his friends and he feels really terrible. He wants things to go back to normal again when they were best friends. He wants to carry her home (be there for her). He thinks they're too young to have grudges. | |
| Vanessa Carlton – White Houses Lyrics | 13 years ago |
This song describes my freshman year of high school in marching band. "Crashed on the floor when I moved in This little bungalow with some strange new friends Stay up too late, and I'm too thin We promise each other it's 'til the end Now we're spinning empty bottles It's the five of us With pretty eyed boys girls die to trust I can't resist the day No, I can't resist the day" On my first day of marching band, all the freshman had to sit on the ground instead of in chairs in the band room with all these new older kids. I stayed up way too late and didn't eat enough. My 4 best girlfriends promised each other it'd be like that forever. There were 3 pretty boys we were just enamored with. We were so excited. "Jenny screams out and it's no pose 'Cause when she dances she goes and goes Beer through the nose on an inside joke And I'm so excited, I haven't spoken And she's so pretty, and she's so sure Maybe I'm more clever than a girl like her Summer's all in bloom Summer is ending soon" One of my best new girlfriends was just awesome. She was pretty and smart and so confident. I so desperately wanted to have something I was better at than her. Summer was nearly over. "It's alright and it's nice not to be so alone But I hold on to your secrets in white houses" I was so happy not to be alone for the first time. "Maybe I'm a little bit over my head I come undone at the things he said And he's so funny in his bright red shirt We were all in love and we all got hurt I sneak into his car's cracked leather seat The smell of gasoline in the summer heat Boy, we're going way too fast It's all too sweet to last" There was this super hot guy I became friends with and he was just so funny. All of my girlfriends were in love with him too. I snuck into the bus with an exboyfriend and we kissed. Everything was moving way too fast. "It's alright And I put myself in his hands But I hold on to your secrets in white houses Love, or something ignites in my veins And I pray it never fades in white houses" I convinced myself I was ready for things I really wasn't. I didn't want it all to end. "My first time, hard to explain Rush of blood, oh, and a little bit of pain On a cloudy day, it's more common than you think He's my first mistake" It was the first time I every reconciled with a boyfriend. A rush of blood came to my brain and I was really upset he didn't want me back. It wasn't under the best of circumstances. I kissed him and it was a mistake. "Maybe you were all faster than me We gave each other up so easily These silly little wounds will never mend I feel so far from where I've been So I go, and I will not be back here again I'm gone as the day is fading on white houses I lied, wrote my injuries all in the dust In my heart is the five of us In white houses" My "Jenny" started dating the hot new guy. Eventually the bridges among the five of us were burned and it wouldn't ever be like it used to be. It's only been a year but I feel like a lot of things have really changed. The girls did hurtful things to me and I pretend I was ok when I wasn't. But with those five best girlfriends of mine will always be some of my happiest days. "And you, maybe you'll remember me What I gave is yours to keep In white houses [x3]" Eventually I got back together with my exboyfriend but then we broke up. The part of my heart I gave him is eternally his. |

"Crashed on the floor when I moved in This little bungalow with some strange new friends Stay up too late, and I'm too thin We promise each other it's 'til the end Now we're spinning empty bottles It's the five of us With pretty eyed boys girls die to trust I can't resist the day No, I can't resist the day" I think of this being the first time she's ever been on her own, whether it was just for the summer or in general. She's moved in with friends and apparently boys too. She's pretty happy and excited. "Jenny screams out and it's no pose 'Cause when she dances she goes and goes Beer through the nose on an inside joke And I'm so excited, I haven't spoken And she's so pretty, and she's so sure Maybe I'm more clever than a girl like her Summer's all in bloom Summer is ending soon" Jenny's this cool girl that everyone wants to be like. She just wants to somehow be better in at least one way than Jenny (maybe I'm more clever than a girl like her). "It's alright and it's nice not to be so alone But I hold on to your secrets in white houses Maybe I'm a little bit over my head I come undone at the things he said And he's so funny in his bright red shirt We were all in love and we all got hurt I sneak into his car's cracked leather seat The smell of gasoline in the summer heat Boy, we're going way too fast It's all too sweet to last" There's this guy they're with and he's perfect. All the girls love him. Since her friends like him, she has to sneak off with him so her friends don't know. They start making out and they're moving too fast. "It's alright And I put myself in his hands But I hold on to your secrets in white houses Love, or something ignites in my veins And I pray it never fades in white houses" She decides to trust this guy. "My first time, hard to explain Rush of blood, oh, and a little bit of pain On a cloudy day, it's more common than you think He's my first mistake" She loses her virginity in the backseat of a car. "On a cloudy day" means it wasn't all sunshine and daisies and love like it's supposed to be. He's the first guy she ever slept with, and she realizes it's a mistake. "Maybe you were all faster than me We gave each other up so easily These silly little wounds will never mend I feel so far from where I've been So I go, and I will not be back here again I'm gone as the day is fading on white houses I lied, wrote my injuries all in the dust In my heart is the five of us In white houses" Maybe everyone in the house was cooler than her. The friendships she thought would last forever didn't. The things they said to her because she slept with the guy everyone loved still hurt. She's come a long way, but she still wishes she could have her best friends when she was still so young. "And you, maybe you'll remember me What I gave is yours to keep In white houses [x3]" Maybe the red shirt boy will remember that he took something so special from her. But in the end, the part of herself she gave him is his to keep. |

| Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young – Our House Lyrics | 14 years ago |
| My dad used to sing this song all the time when I was a little girl. I just read that the writer of this song's girlfriend's name is Joni, which is my mother's name. It reminds me of being a little kid. | |
| The Script – Breakeven Lyrics | 14 years ago |
I feel like this song could apply to another situation other than a breakup. I interpret this song as what a guy is thinking after a girl that was in love with him moved on and got another boyfriend. He kind of played her... figured he'd have forever to make a move and get her while he flirted with other girls. She really liked him and tolerated for a long time. But then she got sick of it and moved on. Now he realizes that he really loves her and that he misses her. "She's finally met a man who is going to put her first." |

| I think this song is about and girl who is willing to share all of the details of her inner workings with this guy she really likes. | |
| Taylor Swift – Last Kiss Lyrics | 14 years ago |
| Tiggerlilli, I think that when she says "I don't know how to be something you'll miss" it's that part of a breakup where you want to look perfect for that person and be happy so if they would ever see you again, they'd want you back. Like, you don't know how to be the type of girl that he would want back. | |

| It should be "And I roll me eyes and then you pull me in. I'm not much for dancing, but for you, I did." | |
| Snow Patrol – You Could Be Happy Lyrics | 14 years ago |
You can be so in love with a person that you ache but sometimes it just doesn't work out. And this guy loves this girl a whole hell of a lot to realize that he had to let her go because she wasn't happy in their relationship. A very similar thing happened with my first love and I... I hope he feels this way about me. He's hopes she's happy because that was the one thing that really mattered to him above everything else. |
| Secondhand Serenade – You and I Lyrics | 14 years ago |
| To me, it seems like this song is about a guy who has feelings for a close friend. This girl has a troubled past and some difficult memories, and he does too. He thinks that together they can escape. | |
| Snow Patrol – Chasing Cars Lyrics | 14 years ago |
This song brings me back to a simpler time... I was sitting on a band bus with my first boyfriend. He gave me my first kiss and this reminds me of the moments after that, sitting there in the dark as the words "I love you" echoed in my head. But in the end, I guess I love you wasn't enough. |
| Taylor Swift – Last Kiss Lyrics | 14 years ago |

Probably the best breakup song I've ever heard. This song is so emotionally charged, it's on fire! I can really relate due to a tough breakup I went through a few months ago. |
| Taylor Swift – If This Was a Movie Lyrics | 14 years ago |
I've been listening to this song for the past couple of months because I recently went through a breakup with my first-ever boyfriend. The line "wrapped up in your arms, and our friends were laughing, cuz nothing like this ever happened to them" reminded me of a band trip in which I lay in his arms and our friends laughed at us. Surprise, surprise, I know. The line "flashback to a night when you said to me nothing's gonna change, not for me and you. That's before I knew how much I had to lose..." reminds me of the same night mentioned above when he told me he loved me for the first time. He said he would never leave. But then he did. And 3 months later, last Tuesday, he asked me if we could try again. And I said... NO. You can't go back, you guys. Going back is the same thing as reading the same book over and over and expecting a different ending. |

| Adele – Rolling in the Deep Lyrics | 14 years ago |
Alright, here's my shot at this song. Last night, I went to the final dance of the school year before our graduation. A few months ago, my boyfriend broke up with me. We remained very close friends. He asked me to dance last night. I said yes. So here we were, walked out to the dance floor, and this song played. "We could've had it all... rolling in the deep." So that's what this song means to me. A brokenhearted person who feels like someone totally broke them. But they were so perfect together, they could've had it all.. |
| Neon Trees – Animal Lyrics | 14 years ago |
I must say I love this song. A few weeks ago I told my best friend I have a crush on him and he likes me too. But he's dating another girl so we basically just talk for hours and hours every night. "Here we go again. I think I wanna be more than friends." |

| Katy Perry – Firework Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| This was the first song I ever slow danced with my boyfriend to (I know, kinda fast for slow dancing to, but anyways...). It's the perfect song for us because I have very low self esteem and tend to be a little bit jaded and pessimistic about life. But this song really hits home (especially the line "You don't have to feel like a waste of space. You're original. You cannot be replaced. If you only knew what the future holds... After a hurricane comes a rainbow" and "Maybe there's a reason why all the doors are closed so you could open one that leads you to a perfect road like a lightning bolt your heart will glow. And when it's time, you'll know.") | |
| Taylor Swift – Ours Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| I think this song is about a relationship that people are constantly judging, for any reason. Whether it be heterosexual or homosexual, people are saying that this relationship is wrong. I can completely relate, considering the fact that I am currently involved with a person of a different religion. People are always judging these people and saying that their love isn't right. | |

| My best friend and I recently got together. Love this song! | |
| Taylor Swift – Superman Lyrics | 15 years ago |

I think this song is about a girl who is in love with a guy who leaves her hanging. She thinks he's perfect and she hopes that he comes and rescues her. Kinda sad, right? Though I can also see the father/brother scenario as plausible as well. |

| Five for Fighting – Chances Lyrics | 15 years ago |
First of all, I just heard this song for the first time a few days ago, and immediately fell in love with it. I think it's about a girl and a guy starting a new relationship. "Chances are when said and done Who will be the lucky ones Who make it all the way? Though you say I could be your answer Nothing lasts forever No matter how it feels today" Very few couples actually end up getting married and having their happy ever after. The girl is saying "well, you might be someone I could love forever" but he thinks things won't always stay the same, no matter how in love they seem right now. "Chances are we'll find a new equation Chances run away from me Chances are all they hope to be" He think that, chances are, their relationship won't work out in the end. But "chances are all they hope to be" meaning that it could be that they stay together forever. "Don't get me wrong I never say never Cause though love can change the weather No act of God can pull me away from you" He's not going to say no to this girl because he really likes this girl. But love can't change the circumstances and nothing can keep him away from her. "I'm just a realistic man A bottle filled with shells and sand Afraid to look beyond what I can lose when it comes to you And though I'll see us through yeah" He's saying that he's simply being realistic about the chances of them staying together in a world of people getting their hopes up just to watch them fall. He doesn't want to get his hopes up just for their relationship to fail. "Chances are we'll find two destinations Chances run away from me Still chances are more than expectations And possibilities Over me" Chances are that they'll split up and that they'll end up far away from each other. And that things likely won't turn out the way they're expected to. "Eight to five or two to one Lay your money on the sun Until you crash what have you done? Is there a better bet than love? What you are is what you bring You've got to cry before you sing" He saying that love is a crazy bet, but what else is there on earth worth betting for? ("lay your money on the sun" as in it's almost certain that your money will burn up and leave you with nothing). Things have to be bad and uncertain before content and good. "Chances, chances Chances lost are hopes torn up pages Maybe this time Chances are we'll be the combination Chances come and carry me Chances are waiting to be taken And I can see" Chances that aren't taken are torn up pages in the story of your life that you don't know how they would have changed your life. Maybe this time, he'll take a chance and it'll be worth it. This chance is one he's willing to take. "Chances are the fascination Chances won't escape from me Chances are only what we make them And all I need" Taken a chance is something he has to do. Chances are only what you make them, and he has to take them because this girl is what he needs and wants. |

| Five for Fighting – Slice Lyrics | 15 years ago |
I've been on a Five for Fighting kick recently, and this song made its way into my iTunes. I must say I was pleasantly surprised (not that all of his songs aren't amazing as well). I think this song is about how much America has changed in just fifty years or so. Things used to be so much simpler and easier, and everyone was united. Now it's one nation divided up into millions of "slices" in our great big "American pie". It's paying tribute to the way things USED to be and showing how things COULD be eventually. I love this song. :) |

| Green Day – Good Riddance (Time of Your Life) Lyrics | 15 years ago |
Just two nights ago I was talking to a guy I had a gigantic crush on last year. I hadn't talked to him for seven months and it was the first time since May we'd spoken. This song was playing on my iTunes as I IMed him. "It's something unpredictable, but in the end is right." And though I don't like him anymore, and am very much in love with a new guy, my best friend, I think this song kind of fits the last time I saw him (May). |

| Maroon 5 – She Will Be Loved Lyrics | 15 years ago |
"I don't mind spending every day out on your corner in the pouring rain." This quote speaks to me because me and my guy best friend/crush wait on a corner after school in the same place every day and it's like "wow, Maroon 5 is talking to me!" "I know all the things that make you who you are." Another quote. Shows how in love the writer was with his girl. |
| Mandy Moore – Crush Lyrics | 15 years ago |
This song describes the way that I feel about my best friend. He always talks to me about the girl he likes (who likes him too, though they're not dating). He's a stereotypical nerd (in band, loves Star Trek, quotes Battlestar Gallactica frequently) but so am I and we've just recently become close. I've fallen for his beautiful heart. |
| Miley Cyrus – Full Circle Lyrics | 15 years ago |
My favorite Miley Cyrus song. I think it's about a guy she really likes during a rough patch in her life. But they're, at the moment, just friends. She's chasing after him, trying to get him to be with her. People are telling them that it's not gonna work out. She wants to give up, but at the same time, she still really likes him. So she's just trying to get him to feel the same. |
| Taylor Swift – You Belong with Me Lyrics | 15 years ago |
This is pretty well happening to me right now. My best guy friend and I are pretty tight, and he's always talking to me about the girl HE likes (my worst enemy). He can't see how well off we are together, because she'll never understand him like I do. But she's popular and I'm just a curly-headed band geek. Maybe he'll come around one day. |
| Green Day – Good Riddance (Time of Your Life) Lyrics | 15 years ago |
My favorite Green Day song. I think it could very well be just about anything, not necessarily just a break up. It's about the things you learn in life ("it's not a question, but a lesson learned in time"). Things happen, not always for the better, but while it happened, you were happy, so it's not a waste ("for what it's worth, it was worth all the while"). Perfect for graduation, or just a nostalgic mood. |
| Nine Days – Absolutely (Story Of A Girl) Lyrics | 15 years ago |
I think this song is about a guy who is dating a girl that's really depressed. He's talking about how he loves her so much ("I absolutely love her when she smiles"). He keeps telling her that eventually she'll feel better, but it never really happens ("how many days in they year have you woke up with hope but you only found tears? I can be so insincere, making you promises, never for real"). She has low self-esteem and basically waits around making excuses for why that is. She has regrets about before that she's always wishing she could change ("As long as she stands there waiting. Wearin' the holes in the soles of her shoes. How many days disappear? You look in the mirror, so how do you choose? Your clothes never wear as well the next day and your hair never falls in quite the same way"). She never runs out of excuses for why her life sucks ("but you never seem to run out of things to say"). He loves her regardless of her faults though, and tells her that most guys wouldn't stay after all the things she's said and done. ("How many lovers would stay? Just to put up with this sh** day after day. How did we wind up this way? Watchin' our mouths for the words that we say. As long as we stand here waitin' wearin' the clothes of the souls that we choose. How do we get there today? When we're walkin' too far for the price of our shoes"). Sweet song. Love it! |

I think this song is about a guy who is in love with his best (female) friend. He knows stuff about her that nobody else knows ("wear that dress to hide those scars that only I have seen"). But she's in love with someone else, but this guy doesn't love her back either, and is oblivious ("did you know that everything she ever does is for you?") Eventually, the singer gets with this girl, but she really can't make herself fall in love with him ("you justified all the things you did, you said it's all for me"). The singer is basically saying that he wishes she would just fall in love with him already instead of pretending ("cover yourself up in me, drowning in what could have been. I will listen to your pain if you listen to me.") He simply wants her to love him the way she loves the other guy. I love this song... so very pure and true. |
