I thought it was from the point of view of the daughter. I got the impression that the album runs like: 'father reading diary' - excerpt from diary - father reading diary - etc. The verse: 'And I start to paint this place as marvelous as it can be And I paint it colorful to cover all the cracks I see Draw the lines I should have made so long ago with grateful strokes Let it fill the place of distrust and impenetrable smoke' suggests drawing. Then the following song 'A Sad Sympathy' has the line 'Reach to touch the drawing that describes your mourning' |

| Laura Marling – My Manic and I Lyrics | 11 years ago |
| The start is about someone wanting to die in Lake Geneva. There's a story that Percy Shelley (husband of the oh so famous Mary, author of Frankenstein), was 'maniacally' depressed and wanted to commit suicide. He was residing at this time by Lake Geneva. I can't then tear my mind away from the idea that the song could be, at least partially, about Percy. Maybe from Mary's perspective, I don't know. | |

I heard once it was about some guy who chucked himself off a bridge to get attention. Also, there's a video flying round somewhere of this song set to clips from Winnie the Pooh! |

| Fairport Convention – Matty Groves Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| It's interesting that technically there was only one murder in the song. Lord Darnell's killing of Matty would have constituted a legal duel, generally frowned upon by the authorities, but not illegal. | |
