The Clash – Straight to Hell Lyrics 14 years ago
the first verse refers to the shutting down of steel mills in Northern England and the alienation and racism suffered by immigrants despite their attempts to integrate into British society. The second verse concerns the abandonment of children in Vietnam who were fathered by American soldiers during the Vietnam War. The third verse contrasts the American Dream as seen through the eyes of an Amerasian child with a dystopian vision of American reality. The final verse considers the plight of immigrants throughout the world.

The Gun Club – For The Love of Ivy Lyrics 15 years ago
Gun Club is not a racist band.
In fact, most underground bands of the 80's were known for taking taboo subjects and making fun of society.
That's exactly what this songs is doing - attacking racist white southern American culture - that's why they are punk. Blues is the actual music hence why Gun Club is one of, if not the finest Punk Blues bands.
Jack White loves this song - he loves the blues notes and Son House is one of his favorite musicians - so there is no racism in it. if anything it is an anti-racism/bigoted song.
Which is why it is classic...timeless.
