| Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark – We Love You Lyrics

The song is inspired by Orwell's '1984', with the "We love you" refrain being a nod to the line from the book, "You must love Big Brother. It is not enough to obey him: you must love him." Lyrics like "Here we are in trouble like we always are, just praying for a miracle" and "Yet here we are in heaven, who could want for more?" speak to the nature of the totalitarian, supposedly blissful system in which the narrator lives. The song was also designed to be interpreted as a tale of unrequited love, as well as a tribute to OMD's fanbase. |

@[Pizaster:16432] I always read "She will ride under the water" as suicide by drowning. The next line is "She will leave her son and daughter", which indicates (to me) that her children will be left without a mother as a consequence of her drowning. |

"Cry Me Out" could have been a truly great track, but sadly the auto-tuned vocal butchers it. Big, emotive numbers really suffer when the vocal is done by a female RoboCop.
I don't blame Lott for that, since she's a fairly capable singer. More to do with the producers who perpetuate the "human-isn't-good-enough" pop culture ideology of the 21st century. Ugh. |

Lol, always amuses me when rock snobs claim that having hit records is "selling out". Hodgson wrote the Logical Song, a perfect radio hit which resonated with millions of people and launched its absolutely classic parent album, Breakfast in America, into the stratosphere. No shame to it. |
