Dave is a genius. In fact, Foo Fighter's music are directly related to their life moments.
I really think that, even this was not the goal of song's meaning, "Walk" is the extreme opposite of "Best of You". About the 2005 song, the person who's in trouble is upset cause his/her lover looks not interested anymore, but he/she is really connected. Even everything happens, if the loved person's gone or interested in other one, it does not matter for he/she cause this guy consider himself/herself a fool. This person is really weak to give up, fearing loneliness, but was strong enough to survive. At the end of the music, now that the best things of this person looks distant, he/she got tired of starting again in other complicated situations.
About "Walk", it's the extreme opposite. A redeemed person tell us that deep into the loneliness he/she still can see a signal of hope. He/she's seeing a light coming from someone of the past that warns anyone. Even this person is now alone, even feels lost, this person is ready to walk and keep life. This is a great difference, cause "Best Of You" tell us that the person can't leave that situation like "you're not what you were, but I can't disconnect myself from you even I feel tired", but "Walk" says something like "keep in progress".

At my vision, the music talks about our minds. Thoughts and dreams that are real for each one of us, that make us believe for sure that they're part of a greatest reality and not only of a single mind reality. The most important phrase is "automatic I imagine, I belive" cause it makes much sense for my conception, and this affirmation express that there's no barrier for dream cause since they're producted this kind of person believe that's real. |

I think the lyrics are covered on irony when Leto writes about "I'm finished with you". Actually, as we can see on "What if I wanted to break?", means that the main chacarter's love broke with him, but now he asks her what would happen if the chance of break their relationship was of his possession.
"What if I wanted to fight/Beg for the rest of my life/What would you do?" are related to the fact that the possibility wich the character says if he had fight until the end to keep the relation, and "Look in my eyes/You're killing me, killing me/All I wanted was you" means him begging for honesty and revealing that he's suffering with this new situation, and finally confess that all he wants is her again. |
