Vance Joy – Georgia Lyrics 10 years ago
I think that this is more about a person realizing that they held a person back from being loved the way that they truly deserved. You can love kissing, but it doesn't mean you love the person the lips belong to. He knows what she's worth, but sometimes you can't bring yourself to love someone completely.

He talks about going back into the flames, and I think that's his feeling of guilt for doing this to a person. When he talks about wishing he'd never told her, it's because he knows he did the damage, and now shes troubled by the fact the man shes in love with doesn't feel the same way.

Life sucks

Death Cab for Cutie – I Will Follow You Into the Dark Lyrics 12 years ago
I don't really think this is about love in the romantic sense. We love a lot of people, and I think that this song is about telling someone that you love, whether it be your best friend, your wife/girlfriend, or your mom, that you won't let them be alone when their souls "embark".

It's easy to just stamp "love song" on these lyrics, but what really got me thinking were the lyrics "If there's no one beside you, when your soul embarks...". It made me feel like they're letting them know that even if you don't have a wife/husband/boyfriend/girlfriend/bestfriend, that they'll be there to follow them into the dark.

Also, this song does not necessarily have to do with death directly. Death may just be symbolism for a time that someone is dealing with something that is really heavy. When we are crippled by depression, or anxiety, we are effectively "dead" because living a life run by depression isn't really living.

Right Away, Great Captain! – Right Ahead, Young Sailor! Lyrics 14 years ago
When I listen to this song, I don't look at it in a literal sense about love or anything emotional. I think this song emphasizes what it means to be the bigger or better person in a situation, and that sometimes you just have to swallow your pride and deal with things that are necessary.

Very good point. But I think this song can relate to any gender really and I used her just because it was easy.

I can't make my own decisions
Or make any with precision
Well, maybe you should tie me up
So I don't go where you don't want me

She's unsure of the decisions she's made in life and she feels as if a lot of them have been mistakes. "Well maybe you should tie me up, So I don't go where you don't want me" is her telling them that if they really cared they would be trying to steer her in the right direction.

You say that I've been changing
That I'm not just simply aging
Yeah, how could that be logical?
Just keep on cramming ideas down my throat

The song starts to get aggressive at this point and she starts to implicate another person. She feels abandoned and feels as if she needs to retaliate by criticizing the other persons judgments, because in her eyes, they failed her and while this is all happening she is really fighting her own unspoken demons.

You don't have to believe me
But the way I, way I see it
Next time you point a finger
I might have to bend it back
Or break it, break it off
Next time you point a finger
I'll point you to the mirror

"You don't have to believe me.." Indicates insecurity because shes giving this person a mental choice. "I might have to bend it back, or break it, break it off" isn't really her establishing dominance in the situation, it's her saying that she doesn't want to deal with the fact that they might be right or that they might ,in the end, actually care and that she's made another "bad" decision.

"Next time you point a finger, I'll point you to the mirror..." Is a completely separate statement. She's trying to rationalize by saying to that person " You've made mistakes too".

If God's the game that you're playing
Well, we must get more acquainted
Because it has to be so lonely
To be the only one who's holy

It's just my humble opinion
But it's one that I believe in
You don't deserve a point of view
If the only thing you see is you

Another attempt at satirizing the person. She uses "god" in this part of the song to hide the rest of it from us. She tried to completely throw us off by distracting us with the significance of religion in our current society. You can refer to a previous poster who related this whole song to religion ( and no offense, you sounded kinda ignorant), which is a prime example of this. She's not trying to refer to a religion, shes trying to make the person seem conceited and self centered. Just another way of rationalizing.

This is the last second chance
(I'll point you to the mirror)
I'm half as good as it gets
(I'll point you to the mirror)
I'm on both sides of the fence
(I'll point you to the mirror)
Without a hint of regret
I'll hold you to it

Every line in this represents a point in time in which she's forgiven this person (or experiences she's had with others). "This is the last second chance (I'll point you to the mirror).." Is when she gave this person another chance to be in her life positively, but in the end failed. "I'm half as good as it gets" Is her being insecure yet again, because she feels that this person made her life worth fighting for, so she gave them another chance, which led to failure. "I'm on both sides of the fence..." She's lost in her emotions, she can't decide if this person will hurt her or help her in life, so she takes another chance and yet again fails.

HOWEVER, the last line could represent something very good for her. "Without a hint of regret, I'll hold you to it" this is her going into a relationship (non-romantic in my eyes) for the very last time with this person and she feels no regret, but if the person messes up again she will finally assert her feelings and separate completely.

Now this could also be the opposite because it's not followed by "I'll point you to the mirror". I can back this up because the last 2 parts of the song start with " i KNOW you don't believe me". This leads me to believe that this person failed her yet again and that she's finally established that they are no good for her and aren't worth the trouble.

---------------------------------

To wrap it up, the lyrics in this song are very emotional and personal. It deals with mental insecurities that could have been created by bad relationships or decisions which have traumatized her so much that she has no idea what peoples intentions are. But she's finally starting to grasp the idea.

I want to stress that this is what I'm hearing and reading, and it probably differs from your perspective.
