Personally, this song sounds to me like a big screw you to fueled by ramen. They dropped him when he went solo, and at first he thought it was so terrible. But then he realized it meant he was free to do whatever he wanted with him music without expectations, and that this is a good thing for him. This is his way of telling them he's free and nothing is going to bring him down. |

Well, she said she chose the word "wonderstruck" because when she flew home after meeting this guy, she had an email saying that he was "wonderstruck to meet her." So that makes sense. |

Well. Yeah, obviously this song is about Joe, which the secret message gives away. But there's a ton of parallels between this song and Forever & Always. There's a line that says "you looked me in the eye and told me you loved me. were you just kidding?" from Forever & Always, and then one in this song that says "you told me you loved me, so why did you go?" The questioning of why right after the idea of him saying that he loves her makes me think that she's still not sure what exactly happened there. But there is another part that says "I do recall now, the smell of the rain" that reminds me of the chorus of Forever & Always. It's like Taylor's way of saying, "I remember how bad it ways when he left. It's a lot less painful now, but I haven't forgotten it." |
