Quote from Elton John song meaning: the first two verses are about non-famous "anonymous" people, perhaps intimate friends of Elton and Bernie... and the latter part of the song is reserved for the more famous ones. I think it's quite effective as opposed to listing just the obvious famous friends that died. Ryan White was quite known at the time of his death, was he not? I like it that it includes not only people died of AIDS but all sorts of friends fallen by the wayside. The woman dead on the floor of a Hollywood arcade definitely does not sound like she died of a sickness. Beautiful song - surprised that there is no comment |

I am surprised there is no comment on this beautiful song. First of all, a correction. 'Close your eyes Ami' should be Close your eyes and dream. Not all loving relationship is plain sailing. We all must experience ups and downs in our relationship. This songs captures the moment where the two in love just wants to forget all the bad memories and enjoy the moment of 'loneliness' of two. I particularly like the words of 'cry no more on the shore, a dream will take us out to sea'. We all need this to transcend our imperfectness. Rita Coolidge, Linda Eder have also sang this song. It is Boz's version I like most.Does anyone know who is the original singer of this song? |
