Tyler Hilton – I Believe in You Lyrics 15 years ago

I agree with the above comments tbh. Personally, I think this song is directed at someone he loves or likes a lot, and she doesn't feel the same. I am currently in this situation and it is very hurtful, annoying and breaking and this song really summarises the situation.

I think maybe at some point he had his love on some level but then lost her because he sings in the very first verse about the ''vanilla sky'', ''holding her'' and ''closing his eyes'' as if to say he feels comfortable around her, etc. But then he says quite an interesting bit: ''And it never ever fails, the sun comes up, our story dies.'' The bit where he says ''it never ever fails'' I personally think he maybe referring to the situation ''having her and then losing her'' because (like me) it has happened more than once, making it recurring. ''The sun comes up'' I think is referring to the end of the night, which is discreetly a way of saying the relationship too. When the sun comes up, the night is over and the sun came up on their relationship (''Our story dies''). ''I don't why know'' is self-explanatory.

The chorus is superb for emphasising the emotion of wanting someone who doesn't want you back. ''Baby that’s all I need, someone like you burning through me'' basically just examines how he's feeling and that is that he needs someone like her to be the one that sets his heart on fire (the use of the word ''burning'' is such a warm slant of the emotion, really deep). ''Oh and it’s never fair'' is clearly about how he can't have her when he wants her so badly. ''The way that we meet and you disappear'' helps emphasise my belief that this maybe about how she comes and goes from his life (my situation). They become close and then she 'disappears'. The line about being ''so alive'' I think is about how he is so into her that he can't sleep. At the end of the chorus, Tyler sings ''I believe in you'' which I think is his way of saying he believes he'll get her back and be with her again, but at the same time, a way of saying he is okay with her decisions to come and go because he respects her (not entirely sure on that bit!).

The second verse speaks for itself really. He finds it ''so hard to give her up’’ but ‘’too easy to pretend’’ that he’s fine with it by the way he speaks to her the next time around like he only wants to be friends with her. ‘’Like the way the leaves would fall til the both of us would end’’ I think is his way of saying about how their relationship ends frequently (because of her coming and going) which Tyler metaphorically relates to the leaves falling every autumn.

The bridge is where he reiterates what I think is the meaning of the song in general which is that ‘’what you want isn’t what you get’’, however you will if you believe.

In the last chorus, Tyler also sings two more lines. ‘’Oh and it’s all so real, the way that you talk, the way that you feel’’ is how she does have feelings for him and act like she does but her constant mind-changing or reluctance to get into another relationship with him is putting her off. He then blames himself in the next line, saying ‘’I want to scream but I know the fault lies with me’’ before reassuring himself that he still ‘’believes in her’’.

I have no idea if this is the intention behind it or anything close, you all may disagree with me anyway but I personally see it this way because it perfectly fits my life situation. I have an upcoming gig in which the girl I’m crazy for will be at and I plan on playing this song and she’ll know it’s about her. I just think it’s a lovely song, especially the acoustic version and I really hope Tyler or anyone writes more songs like this because they really have no idea how special these pieces are or how much they can affect and influence someone like me. Sorry for rambling ;)
