It's a simple song with simple lyrics which makes it so accurate and meaningful to so many. lets try and think of this song as being about something as fragile and powerful as love, rather than tainting it with references to drugs all the bloody time! But has anyone ever thought what the video is all about? Here's what i think.
The video depicts a lone figure, a king, wandering aimlessly across the landscape, as if he was surveying his kingdom. At the time of release, DM were one of the biggest names in pop as they had been throughout the 80's (and rightly so) but the media were never supportive of their meloncholic undertones and never really championed their style. Despite this, they dominated the charts and had a massive following both here and in the states. And so despite the silence and lack of attention from the media, which they are enjoying, they are the kings of their realm. I thank you. |

i think i agree with some bits that people have said, but for me the clue is at the end of the video. Fran is performing a great feat of strength for his own benefit, hence the reference to 'I' throughout the song. however, at the end of the video there's someone who really needs his help but he hasn't the strngth to assist. Thus the song title....maybe if we all 'turned' and changed certain ways such as being self centered, and put more effort to helping those who need it. Just a thought tho. |
