Well, seeing I'm a Mormon as well, and having spent "two long years in a strange, strange land" (Thailand) I totally would know where he's coming from... I felt a big switch from liking the girls I used to, to liking the Thai women in many respects. But truly, "All the different places [are] ringing out like a shotgun in my head [and] all the pretty faces [are] ringing out and I just can't go to bed." As far as Mormons go, "you can't tell anyone about me" because it's almost shameful to want to be with someone from your mission... Brandon didn't serve a mission, but he definitely could be referring to the experience of someone else he knows well. |

This song is referring to his decision to not serve an LDS mission With thoughts in mind of his parents not in support of him not serving an LDS mission, but him stating that he's still faithful, but not ready for being a missionary... "I got soul, but I'm not a soldier" obviously referring to his strong faith, but not being a "soldier" or missionary (part of God's army) He wanted to be sincere in his testimony and in service to God hence, "I wanna mean it from the back of my broken hand". He states his conviction in saying "These changes ain't changing me the gold-hearted boy I used to be" (cold -hearted should be gold-hearted.) |
