| Manic Street Preachers – The Second Great Depression Lyrics | 15 years ago |

I feel this song is about the second great economic depression i.e. the one we're about to go through (or possibly already are). The song was obviously written before the start of the recession in 2008 but maybe the manics had forseen that something pretty big was going to happen. "Lasted longer than I figured" - People don't realise that the economy is far from recovering and there is worse to come. "Left me cold and withered" - Not enough money to keep warm and fed. "I can't believe I let it happen" - We can do something about it; NOT Government, NOT Politicians, NOT Banks, but people/us. "I thought about it a million times" - Million, big number, reference to money. "When you maintained nothing but smile" - I think possibly a reference to government, media, banks where I think they're smiling and saying everything is fine nothing to worry about but behind the scenes it's all going tits and they're happy for this as they are making a killing out of it. "Collapse or come together" - If we pull together, support local businesses, reject the corrupt government and large international fraudulent banks/banksters then we will come through the other side, otherwise we are headed for major collapse. Well that's just my take on it! ;) |
