Jewel – Painters Lyrics 15 years ago
I have to add that I don`t find this song sad, I cry because it`s beautiful.
Yes, it`s sad to lose someone, but I always thought that this old lady is so, so lucky to have had love like that. And to me she looks back at life, never wanted to have missed out on any of it, looking back at youth when everything was so wonderful that things almost created themselves in their hands, as a result of their love for life and eachother.

Jewel – Painters Lyrics 15 years ago
It took me many years to listen to this song without crying. It`s probably THE song that has touched me the most,..ever. It made me feel less alone through a troublesome youth, gave me hope that some of this beauty, nostalgia and love exists. While listening to it as an adult I see the naivety of this song, but that is also what makes it so beautiful.

I guess this is a song you either hits you or it doesn`t, I know a lot of people who doesn`t like it and claim Jewel can do a lot better than this. Sorry if I`m a bit too honest here, but to me that only witness that they don`t "get" the song, all the emotion, the way life feels for an artist... what an artist wants to create. It thouches me how this couple strives to express their love, how they create together, and to me it`s a picture of how I`d wish to live my life... and how I long for someone to share that passion with.

"They thought blueprints were too sad, so they made them yellow" ... *sigh* what a beautiful metaphor!

Thank you ThomYorkeGuy, for bringing me to listen to the original as well.
This song is so beautiful, very few melodies thouch me like this (actually more than the lyrics, even though I like them too). Both versions are beautiful, though less different than I expected

The Mountain Goats – No Children Lyrics 15 years ago
I`m very much upset with how we`ve created societies of survival of the fittest and happiest. People seem so afraid to admit that they have problems, hell... even admitting they`re having a bad day. This song gives a big, fat finger to all that crap. At least, that`s something this song gives me thought about. It is OK to say "to hell with it" and "who cares what others think!?", everytime I hear the part where he sings he wish he will cut himself shaving, and that it bleeds all day long I find it very liberating ... and a little humorous. `cause, yes it`s childish and attention-seeking, but we all know how it feels to be in that mood, and why not admit it eh? spit it out, laugh at yourself and get over it.

A little note on the side of the topic;
another one of my favorite songs goes like this "bitterness happens to you, when you let others tell you what to do".
I love this part;
"I hope that our few remaining friends
Give up on trying to save us"
By pleasing others, before taking care of one`s own needs is almost doomed to lead to bitterness.
