Fall Out Boy – Just One Yesterday Lyrics 10 years ago
I agree with what Vivian1810 said about it being a destructive relationship, there's just a few lines I take differently though.

Anything you say can and will be held against you
So only say my name
It will be held against you
(For some reason this reminds me of the song Hold It Against Me by Britney Spears, in her song she says "If I said I want your body now, would you hold it agianst me?" I take the same interpretation here. Where a big part of the relationship and maybe just trying to keep it together is about sex. Also it implys a bit of jealousy here, he seems to place emphasis on saying "only" his name. If she says his name he will literally hold himself against her.)

If heaven’s grief brings hell’s rain
Then I’d trade all my tomorrows for just one yesterday
(I know I’m bad news)
For just one yesterday
(I saved it all for you)
(I think this is about knowing the person was bad for you, with them both admiting that they just want to hurt each other, but still wanting them anyway, and maybe even somehow enjoying the arguments.Knowing that even if the good times "Heaven's grief" were still bad and brought "hell's rain" that he'd still give up all of his tomorrows for just one more day with her.)

I want to teach you a lesson in the worst kind of way
Still I’d trade all my tomorrows for just one yesterday
(I know I’m bad news)
For just one yesterday
(I saved it all for you)
For just one yesterday
(This is the defenition of a love/hate relationship. He wants to get even with her for how she was treating him. He wants to do it so badly that he's willing to treat her the exact same way she treated him, making her hurt just like she did to him. And yet somehow, he'd still give up his entire future for just one more day with her)

Matchbox Twenty – Bent Lyrics 13 years ago
To me this song is about a relationship that's already over ending with them both "bent". The guy is telling the girl that all he wanted is all her love and attention but she just doesn't seem to get it. But because he's so bent and in love he still loves her and just wishes she felt the same way even after she's already gone. Maybe my thoughts on it are based off of my own recent break up...When I get in a relationship all I ever ask for is attention and love. I don't need gifts or anything else, just to feel like I'm the most important thing in their lives. The other person broke it off because I was "too clingy" when all I wanted was attention.

If I fall along the way
Pick me up and dust me off
And if I get too tired to make it
Be my breath so I can walk
(He's asking her to be his support. If he falls he wants her to pick him up, if he feels like he can't make it, he's asking her to stay and help him. He knows he has problems and things get hard sometimes but with her help he'd be ok)

And if I need some other love
Give me more than I can stand
(If he ever thinks of anyone else, if ever he thinks of leaving, he tells her to just love him so much he can't stand it anymore, love him until it drives him crazy, and more.)
And when my smile gets old and faded
Wait around I'll smile again
(Everyone has their off days. He knows he can't pretend to be happy all of the time but if she'll just wait it out with him eventually she can cheer him up and make him smile again)

Shouldn't be so complicated
Just hold me and then
Well just hold me again
(He seems to be getting a little frustrated here that she's still not getting it. She's the only one that can make him happy in spite of all their fights and everything else. Love shouldn't be complicated, all he wants is her to be there for him always and to just hold him. Even if things are all falling apart and going wrong, all she'd have to do is hold him again and it would be ok)

[Chorus]
Can you help me I'm bent
I'm so scared that I'll never
Get put back together
Keep breaking me in
And this is how we will end
With you and me bent
(To me this shows that they've broken up but it could still be saved. He's bent, not broken, at least he thinks so. I think he's saying she's not comming back though when he say's that he might never get put back together. She was the only thing holding him together. In spite of all the fights he still wants her back and to keep on "breaking him in" because all the good was worth the bad. But he basically resigns himself to the end when he says its ending with them bent. In spite of how much he loves her and she could save it all by holding him, she's just too stubborn to do it so they both end up bent.)

If I couldn't sleep could you sleep
(He's trying to get a feel of how she still feels. If he's hurting and wide awake would that bother her or would she be able to sleep like nothings wrong in her world)
Could you paint me better off
(I think he's saying if you have to leave could you leave me a little less bent than I was when you were here. As hard as that would be he wants to know that there's still something else to live for after she's gone.)
Could you sympathize with my needs
I know you think I need a lot
(He knows that she thinks he's needy and clingy but he's asking her to try and sympathize if nothing else. All he's ever asking for in the song is all of her attention and love. He wants to feel like he's all that ever matters to her and that he's all that's in her heart, yet she still feels like that's too much. To me this kinda says why they broke up, she thought he was too needy)

I started out clean but I'm jaded
(He was just fine before she came along. But now that she bent him he's just cynical and can't find happiness without her)
Just phoning it in
Just breaking the skin
(He ends up "just phoning it in", going through the motions. After a break up it's easy to say that it's time to go back to business as usual but it doesn't feel right though really nothings changed and you feel like you're just phoning it in. "Just breaking the skin" to me means that no matter what everything's just the tip of the iceburg. The start of missing her, the earlier start of just saying how much he needs her, the start of moving on. He's just kinda there.)
[Chorus]

Start bending me
It's never enough
I feel all your pieces
Start bending me
Keep bending me, until I'm completely broken in
(He knows that she's broken too, so it's kind of saying why not be broken together? Even if he knows she's going to hurt him, he needs to be with her and it's never enough so he's willing to tolerate all the pain and be entirely broken in if she'd just give him all her love and more.)

Shouldn't be so complicated
Just touch me and then
Just touch me again
(I could see the last two lines as either refering to make up sex. Saying even after all of their fights, he still wants her in every way. Or it could be about after fights just letting him know things are ok again, a touch of the hand, shoulder, anything. Just touching him to let him know they're still close and he matters.)

Without understanding, yeah I'll go there again
(He doesn't know why he loves her so much but he's not going to question it. After the break ups and the pain, he really shouldn't love her anymore. He knows they'll just end up fighting again, but regardless he's still more than willing to get back together and "go there again" just because of love.)

Taylor Swift – All Too Well Lyrics 13 years ago
"And I forget about you long enough to forget why I needed to" Is almost an exact quote from a song called I Saw by Matt Nathanson. He just says need instead of needed though. Basically it's saying that she can forget about him for a time, almost entirely, so that she forgets exactly WHY she needs to forget about him, all the pain and the fights, but no matter what the happy memories come back to her again eventually.

The Fray – You Found Me Lyrics 14 years ago
I see this song as both anti-religion and yet highly religious at the same time. The speaker is angry at God and for good reasons, God was never there when the speaker needed him. It's almost as if he never cared and wanted the speaker to suffer. Yet, the speaker was found. He found and was found in return. Both allowed themselves to seem human. The speaker is angry at God and God is casual, yet neither gets the answers they're looking for. The speaker never finds out why God waiting so long to find him and God never finds out why the speaker waited so long to look for him before his suicide.

I found God on the corner of 1st and Amistad
(The speaker kills himself and finds himself at a seemingly random street corner and God just happens to be there. I do see some meaning behind the name of the street. 1st is almost saying God should've been first in his life instead of his own problems. Amistad in spanish means friendship, it seems almost like this is the relationship between the speaker and God. They don't seem close at all, but just casual acquaintances.)
Where the West was all but won
(As someone said before this shows God's apparent absence. God had nothing to do with the west being won and had no apparent effect on the speakers life.)
All alone, smoking his last cigarette
(God appears human here. Perhaps in an attempt to get the speaker to be more open and so both can get answers. Note that God is also alone, he was waiting to be found as well. God is also taking a smoke break. There is war and starvation and poverty as well as everyone's individual suffering but all he cares about is his smoke. I also find that it's his last cigarette to be meaningful in that if the singer had waited just a bit longer to kill himself God could've sent him the call he was looking for. "Patience is a virtue." Unfortunately for the singer it was something he lacked and killed himself just a little too soon.
I said, "Where you been?", He said, "Ask anything"
(The singer questions God, rightly demanding to know where he was when he was going through so much pain, why can't everyone feel his love? God avoids the question completely. An omnipotent being has his reasons for doing as he does and doesn't feel like he has to answer this specific question. He "pleads the fifth" in a sense and tells him to ask anything, just not that.)

Where were you, when everything was falling apart?
(The singer makes it personal now. I see him as angry and crying out to God. Asking him if you're so great why couldn't you help me? Why didn't you save me while there was still a chance? Why does life have to be so hard and why do bad things happen to good people?)
All my days were spent by the telephone that never rang
(This is part of the singer's justification for his suicide and also his blaming God. He tells God none of this would've happened if you would've sent me some small sign. A call was all he wanted, just a call, someone to tell him everything would be all right. He never got this call. God never bothered to compel someone to call the singer and save his life.)
And all I needed was a call that never came
To the corner of 1st and Amistad
(This is God's reply. God was waiting for the singer to just stand up and admit he needed God, needed someone to help him. God says all he wanted was to know that his help was needed and he would've done something, but the singer never asked God specifically for help so his cries went unanswered. This makes God appear human too, he just wanted to know he was wanted as well.)

Lost and insecure, you found me, you found me
(This God telling the singer that even at your worst, you still found me. When you needed me the most you did in fact find me, just not in the way that you planned.)
Lying on the floor, surrounded, surrounded
(The singer is describing himself. He is dead, lying on his floor, surrounded by family and loved ones who didn't expect his death, and surrounded by blood.)
Why'd you have to wait, where were you, where were you?
Just a little late, you found me, you found me
(This is both talking to the other. God wants to know why the singer killed himself instead of bothering to ask God for a little help. The singer asks God why he waited until after he was dead to reveal himself to the singer. Both of them were a little late, God was on his smoke break, waiting for the singer to pray to him so he knew to return to work (a very human thing to do, waiting around for someone to tell you what to do) and the singer was a little late in looking for God, taking the easy way out, instead of waiting for God)

But in the end everyone ends up alone
(This is a very profound statement. According to the beginning God was alone and so was the singer. In the end, even God winds up by himself, and all humans end up dead or a widow/widower. Either way, everyone's alone.)
Losing her, the only one who's ever known
Who I am, who I'm not and who I want to be
No way to know how long she will be next to me
(The singer finishes by saying why he killed himself. We find out it was because of a breakup or some other emotional rift, that he lost "her". "Her" could be a family member, or an ex, it doesn't matter really. Whoever she was she was his whole world. They practically were a single being. They literally knew everything about each other. When she disappeared it's like half of him was gone too. Whoever they were though they left the singer for a long time. The only person he ever really cared for was gone. Now that he's dead/dying though she comes back and is with his body. It took his death for the other person to realize how much they cared for him. But all memories fade in time, and she will eventually move on.)

The early morning, the city breaks
And I've been calling for years and years and years and years
(This sets the scene for everything that's happened. God and the singer have went back and forth all night with each other, it's morning now and the city is coming to life. Ironic, considering the singer committed suicide, and they're both invisible to everyone around them. Nobody else can truly see God either. The singer defends himself by saying he really was trying to get in touch with God. He tried for many years to get a sign that never came to him. It appeared that God was just ignoring him.)
And you never left me no messages, you never sent me no letters
(God says the singer didn't try very hard. He only tried to get God's attention when he wanted something urgent but never just to talk. He never tried to get in touch casually with God, through a short memo or a polite letter, he just called. Phone calls are very impersonal, you can't keep a phone call like you can a letter. Someone has to want to really want to talk to you if they take the time to write you a note or a letter.)
You got some kind of nerve taking all I'm worth
(This is both of them screaming at each other. The singer is angry, saying you're God, you should've known I needed help, wasn't my life worth saving? In the end life is something all people have in common, the only thing of any worth. God seemingly took it away by not answering any of the singers calls. God replies that the singer was just using him. The singer only called when he wanted something, not like a good Christian should where they pray when they need something or not.)

I know I may have offended many Christians with this analysis (and this analysis has come from a non-christian) but...God made humans in his own image. Having emotions is human, however it's also Godly. If God made humans in his own image then God must have emotions too. It's relate-able to the song "What If God Was One Of Us" where the singer asks what if God was a normal person on the street...who's to say he's not? The moral of the story is that in the end both the guy and God found each other, they were both just a little late. The guy was saved, it just wasn't when and how he wanted. Notice in the end how the singing changes in the last line, previously it sounded angry and harsh, in the end it's a longing of knowledge. He is found and loved by God,it's completely irrelevant, yet perhaps it's relate-able to all humans. We all ask God where he is and why he can't show himself like in the Old Testament? Why can't he show himself to us and make it easy to have faith and believe. And God is asking us why we fight over religions and kill each other when life should be all about loving and trying to enjoy God's presence. Why do humans and God have to wait to find each other instead of making everything easy? That is the divine question with no true answer.

Jewel – You Were Meant For Me Lyrics 15 years ago
This song is definitely about a break up and about how you try to go on without the other person but no matter what there's always a piece of them in everything you do. I'm in a similar situation right now, my ex and I have been broken up for almost a year now, but there's still a piece of her in everything i do and every part of my day.

I hear the clock, it's 6am
I feel so far away from where I've been
(The alarm goes off as always but without him she feels completely lost)

Got my eggs, and my pancakes too
Got my maple syrup, everything but you
(I personally love these lines. She has breakfast without him but even breakfast has it's remnants of him in it)
I break the yolks and make a smiley face
(This could be taken 2 ways. either she's making the eggs into a face because it's something they used to do or she's doing it to make herself feel better)
I kinda like it in my brand new place
I wipe the spots off of the mirror
Don't leave the keys in the door
Never put wet towels on the floor anymore 'cause
(another double meaning. She's either trying to improve herself since he left to make herself feel better and him feel bad, or she's finally making the arguments right...doing everything she should've done when he was there)

CHROUS: Dreams last so long
Even after you're gone
I know, that you love me
And soon you will see
You were meant for me
And I was meant for you
(This is the last desperate hope of the relationship. She dreams of him still and even though he's gone she "knows" that he still loves her and soon he'll come back)

Called my momma, she was out for a walk
Consoled a cup of coffee but it didn't wanna talk
(love the second line here, She tries talking to her mom but that doesn't work so she gets so desperate for some company that she talks to her coffee cup...still no luck there either)
Picked up a paper, it was more bad news
More hearts being broken or people being used
(self explanatory, the paper shows her that she's not alone. Other people have had their hearts broken and have been used as well. She's not alone.)
Put on my coat in the pouring rain
Saw a movie it just wasn't the same
'Cause it was happy and I was sad
It made me miss you oh so bad
(Even the days are rainy and dull without him. She tries doing something they used to do to cheer herself up but it didn't work because it was a happy movie and she missed him being there during the movie like he always was before)

BRIDGE: Go about my business, I'm doing fine
Besides, what would I say if I had you on the line
Same old story, not much to say
Hearts are broken every day
(She tries to convince herself that she's ok. There's nothing left to say between them and it's really over. Everything that needed to be said had been. Even if there was anything to say it would be the same things they'd said before. The same lies he's told her before hence "Hearts are broken everyday". She tries to convince herself she's not good for him and other people have been in her shoes too.)

Brush my teeth and put the cap back on
I know you hate it when I leave the light on
I pick up a book, Turn the sheets down
Take a deep breath and a good look around
(Once again she finds herself doing the things she never used to do if it meant it would bring him back and things could be different. She takes a deep breath and looks around to prepare herself mentally for the knowledge that he really is gone and isn't coming back.)
Put on my pj's and hop into bed
I'm half alive but I feel mostly dead
I try and tell myself it'll be all right
I just shouldn't think anymore tonight
(The ultimate truth about break ups...Even when you should try to relax knowing you'll have a busy day they're still on your mind. You only feel half alive cuz you're missing your better half. You tell yourself you'll be ok and shouldn't think about them anymore...but the next day will be exactly the same. )

Every Avenue – Tell Me I'm a Wreck Lyrics 15 years ago
This song is definitely fitting what me and my ex were like. Like so accurate it's almost scary. But in general this song is about a guy that tried and a girl that didn't.

I could have been easier on you
I could have been all you held on to
I know I wasn't fair
I tried my best to care about you
(About you)
(The guy could've been nicer to her but she definitely could've tried harder to be his one and only. He might not have been fair all of the time but he still tried hard to care about her.)

I know I could have been a better man
But I always had to have the upperhand
I'm struggling to see the better side of me
(The guy has some psychological issues and always had to be in control. He knows he could change he's just having troubles doing so)
But I can't take all your jabs and taunts
You're pointing out my every fault
And you wonder why I walked away
(The girl always eggs him into an argument and calls out every little thing he does wrong, yet she wonders why he left her.)

When you tell me I'm a wreck
You say that I'm a mess
How could you expect anything less?
(Expect anything less)
(I think this is kind of an "I told you so" situation. He told her about his issues but she didn't listen and acted like it was all on purpose)
You latched on to me
Then cried I strung you along
(self explanatory, the guy tried his hardest but all the girl did was complain.)
I told you when you asked
I knew this wouldn't last
At least I could be honest about that
(Honest about that)
And now you're telling everyone
How I only did you wrong
I guess you never knew me at all
(also self explanatory. He warned her they were probably going to break up and shouldn't even try. Now she's telling all her friends about supposedly what a bad boyfriend he is. This proves she never really even tried to understand him)

Remember on my twenty-first birthday
You took me where we went on our first date?
We stayed till closing time
After four glasses of wine
You started with a pointless argument
You said that I forgot to compliment
The dress you wore that night
That I've seen a thousand times
(awesome little story here and i could see my ex doing this same thing. It was supposed to be a special date for them and instead she made a big deal out of literally nothing. If he's seen the dress a ton before why should he have to say anything about it? she knows what he thinks about it already.)

But I think we just want different things
I want space, you want a diamond ring
Whatever made you think we were meant to be?
(the guy thinks they fight cuz they just want different things. He wants space from all the things she does to hurt him and she's just staying with him because she wants fancy things.)

Still, I see you standing there
Waiting 'round for me to fall
(Waiting 'round for me to fall)
Girl, you must be crazy
Still believing you and me belong
I guess you never knew me at all
(Even after everything she puts him through shes still waiting for him to come back to her. He calls her crazy for thinking he'd ever want her back after the pain she put him through. She never really knew anything about him)

Steer Clear – No, You Hang Up Lyrics 15 years ago
This is my favorite song by them. It's too bad nobody's heard of them and that they had to break up.
Anyway this song is in 3 parts and each one describes part of his relationship.
This song is exactly what I recently went through so I can relate to it particularly well.

VERSE 1:
I would love to know, just what you'd do
If you got your hands on me,
'Cos I've single handedly, aggresively, repeatly
Destroyed your world, I've stole your girl or she stole me,
I'm not quite sure but it was so good.
(Him and another guy were competing over a girl and the singer won. He taunts the other guy by saying how the girl finally chose him over the other guy)

CHORUS:
And now you're circling the drain,
I pulled the plug on you now
And hopefully you will refrain
From treating everyone like shit
When I'm gone, I will rise up, I will rise up,
Haunting your dreams,
I will rise up, I will rise up, I will, I will, I will rise up from the dead ...
(He continues to taunt the other guy saying that he hopes stealing the girl won't make the other guy call him names when he's not around cuz either way he still has the girl.)

VERSE 2:
Scapegoat the opposite sex,
And blame it on your victim complex
Stupid motherfucker who's just down on his luck
If you were hanging from a tree you know I wouldnt give a ____ ...
(The other guy blames the girl for choosing the singer and comes up with excuses. Honestly, it was just unfortunate luck that he didn't get the girl. The singer again shows his contempt for the other guy for trying to get the girl by saying even if you were dead i wouldn't care)
[PART 2]
VERSE 3:
I'm sitting way up here on my cloud,
I've been watching you living your life without me around.
And it just kills me to see it but if you love them, you'll let them go.
(i see this part as to all parties involved and being from an outsider as they can relate to any of the 3. It could be another guy, possible just a friend that's been ignored by the girl, telling the girl to let the other guys go and be with him instead. It could be the singer/other guy telling the girl to just be with him and not worry about anybody else or what they think.)

I'm sitting way up here on my cloud
And I've been watching you living your life without me around.
And it just kills me to see you but there's not much I can do
So I'll use this clichéd breakdown in a vain attempt to take down
Any memory of you ...
(this part makes me lean towards the first part of the verse being a 3rd guy. She leaves both the singer and the other guy for the 3rd guy. The singer still sees the girl around from time to time and it kills him inside but he knows she's made her choice and there's nothing he can do so he's going to try his hardest to forget her)

[PART 3]
BRIDGE:
You're thinking what you've heard so far are just words,
And that anyone could write them down,
Anyone could make these sounds,
But you're wrong, you're wrong.
(this part is from the singer to the girl. She doesn't notice him and doesn't notice the song's about her. She downplays it as nothing special, but she's wrong cuz it's unique and about her)

This isn't just a song about you,
Picking out what's wrong about you,
This is just me screaming from the heart.
It's not the former or the latter,
You were just the subject matter,
This is my life and you were just one part.
(He does what she did to him; he attempts to make her feel unimportant saying it just so happened that he wrote a song about her, she's nothing special and his life will go on.)

But saying that we were good while we lasted,
I'm not saying that I've moved on and I'm past it
(They had a good relationship while it lasted and he accepts that. But he's far from over her and moving on.)

But take into consideration all the fucking aggrovation
Pair it with each hug and kiss and memories I know you'll miss,
Each stick and stone they broke our bones but at least we'd never be alone.
(He tells her to remember the good with the bad and he knows that she'll miss the relationship they had. He admits that while they did have their arguments, they had the potential to be together for the rest of their lives)

So close your eyes and visualise: relationships without demise,
And moments filled with butterflies, without the lies, beneath blue skies.
(He tells her to think about happy relationships, without any of the problems theirs had, how their relationship should've been. It should've lasted forever, and neither one of them should've lied.)

Now you know these aren't just lyrics scribbled down so I can finish
A song about another girl who came along; destroyed my world.
This right here's my heart and soul prepared for you so it can roll
Right off your tongue to clear up doubt; remind you what you've done.
(He says this part isn't just quickly written about some girl that broke his heart. The song is his heart, everything he feels. He wrote it so it will make sense and it will remind the girl about how she ended the relationship that could've been perfect)

And if you're somehow still confused, I need you to ...
Take a breath and hold it,
Think about what life would be like
If you'd just have thought this through,
Memories would be present tense,
Dilemmas would be common sense,
And I would be with you ...
(He ends by saying that if she still doesn't understand that he still loves her and how she broke his heart and ended the relationship he tells her to just stop and think about what she did. If she hadn't made the rash decision to break up with him, they'd still be making new memories. Any questions she had about if she made the right choice wouldn't need to be asked because they could've been perfect together. If she wouldn't have dumped him she still could've had him)

Rihanna – Love the Way You Lie (Part II) Lyrics 15 years ago
Welcome to my analysis of Love The Way You Like Part 2, if you haven't read mine from part one yet i suggest you do so as it will explain the other side of the story. I don't think this one is as well written as part one as it's a lot more obvious, and also seems to blame the guy when part one said that it's both of their faults. but here's an analysis anyway.

(This is obviously the her reply to part one. Part one was the guys side and how he views the relationship but now we get to her what the girl thinks.)
On the first page of our story
The future seemed so bright
Then this thing turned out so evil
I don't know why I'm still surprised
(When they first fell in love everything seemed perfect. She thought they'd be together forever. Then they started fighting and she realized how horrible the relationship really is but still it comes as a "surprise" when they fight.)

Even angels have their wicked schemes
And you take that to new extremes
But you'll always be my hero
Even though you've lost your mind
(She says that even the most perfect people are hiding things behind closed doors, but she says that he takes it to a new level with their constant fighting. But she admits that she'll still always love him even though they fight 24/7)

Just gonna stand there and watch me burn
Well that's alright because I like the way it hurts
Just gonna stand there and hear me cry
Well that's alright because I love the way you lie
Love the way you lie
Oh I love the way you lie
(same as love the way you lie pt. 1)

Now there's gravel in our voices
Glass is shattered from the fight
In this tug of war you'll always win
Even when I'm right
'Cause you feed me fables from your head
With violent words and empty threats
And it's sick that all these battles are what keeps me satisfied
(This is obviously right after a fight, Their voices are worn out from yelling at each other and glass is shattered on the floor, this also can be inferred that both sides were at fault for. She knows that she'll always come running back to him after they fight and she swears she's going to leave. She knows that they'll continue to stay together and not break up, even though she feels that she'd be completely justified in leaving him.)

So maybe I'm a masochist
I try to run
But I don't wanna ever leave
Til the walls are going up in smoke with all our memories
(This part references the part 1 music video. She admits that she really does love the fights they get into as much as he does. When she tries to run she's overcome with love and doesn't want to leave him, so she stays. The next line references the music video's end when the house is burning up. The song says that this is what really makes her want to leave him, but the video implies that she still won't and that she'll stay with him because their love is just that strong)

[Eminem]:
This morning you wake
A sun ray hits your face
Smeared make-up as we lay in the wake of destruction
(setting the scene for after the fire. The first two lines imply that she thinks that she's beautiful and that he still loves her. The third line is descriptive of the night before when the house burned down.)
Hush baby
Speak softly
Tell me your awfully sorry
(Again this says that he still loves her, he tells her to speak softly that she might ruin the moment of beauty he sees in her. She blames herself for what happened, either rightly or wrongly is really not for us to decide, as it's been said before they both have bad tempers and are extremely jealous of each other, so maybe they were both at fault and they both did something.)
That you pushed me into the coffee table last night so I can push you off me
Try and touch me so I can scream at you not to touch me
(He's almost daring her to start a fight here I think. He's telling her to bring up what she did to hurt him last night so he can get his revenge and push her back. He wants her to reach over and touch him so he can start another fight and push her away.)
Run out the room and I'll follow you like a lost puppy
(This is a major counterpoint to the last 2 lines. As much as he wants to fight her and push her away, he admits that he'd be lost without her.)
Baby without you I'm nothing
I'm so lost
Hug me then tell me how ugly I am
But that you'll always love me
Then after that shove me
(This again describes the love/hate relationship they have and how they're both to blame for it. He tells her that he's nothing without her and he's "lost" metaphorically and that's why they fight all of the time. The last 3 lines are him wanting her to start an argument too. He wants her to show that she loves him by hugging him and telling him that she'll always love him. But he also wants to fight, he wants her to tell him how "ugly" (ugly on the inside, how his outside appearance doesn't match how much he fights on the inside) he is and shove him away.)

In the aftermath of the destructive path that we're on
Two psychopaths but we know that no matter how many knives we put in each other's backs
That we'll have each other's backs
'Cause we're that lucky
Together we move mountains
Let's not make mountains out of mole hills
(Again, saying that even after the house burned down, he knows that they're both crazy, they're both to blame for the constant fights they get into, that no matter how much they start fights with each other and hurt each other they'll always love each other. They know that they're lucky to have each other because they satisfy each others needs of love and hate. He asks her not to make a big deal about what happened before, as always it could always be much much much worse, even than burning down the house.)

You hit me twice yeah but who's countin'?
I may of hit you three times, I'm startin' to lose count
(As the last song, he shows that the blame is on both of them, but when he says "yeah, but who's countin'?" he's being sarcastic, obviously he was counting how many times she hit him the night before. In his rage though he doesn't remember how many times he's hit her, both total and the night before.)

But together we'll live forever
We found the youth fountain
Our love is crazy, we're nuts
But I refuse counseling
(I think this is self explanatory too. Together they feel like they can overcome all odds (when they're getting along) They know that their relationship is crazy, they're crazy for staying together with how they both are and how they fight all of the time. As I said before though, this song is unlike the first part because it shifts blame to the guy where the first song blamed them both equally (almost). The guy does the typical guy thing and denies that anything is wrong, they're both in love and hate in the same time and that's all that matters, so he refuses to go and see anyone else to work out the problems. It works for him and it works for her both, so in his eyes there's no need to get help.)

This house is too huge
If you move out I'll burn all two-thousand square feet of it to the ground
Ain't shit you can do about it
'Cause with you I'm in my fucking mind
Without you I'm out it
(flashback reference to part 1 again. He says that if she leaves that he'll burn the house to the ground. All because of just how much he loves her, he needs her to function normally. Without her he feels like he's absolutely nothing. Without her he'll completely lose his sanity.)

Thus ends my analysis of part 2. Both parts are good but i still prefer part 1 because it is less biased and has much more creative writing to it.

Eminem – Love The Way You Lie (feat. Rihanna) Lyrics 15 years ago
The music video definitely shows what the song is about, too many people listen to this song and say it's just the guy being abuse. That is just wrong. Both parties are at fault, their love brings them together but their mistrust/jealousy pushes them apart. I've also noticed that no one has fully described the meaning to the song so I will do so below.

I can't tell you what it really is
I can only tell you what it feels like
(Eminem is describing the relationship. He can't describe how the relationship really is because the love/hate aspect would make anyone think that they're both crazy, but if he describes how they can love each other so passionately and yet intensely hate each other at the same time maybe people will understand the relationship better)
And right now there's a steel knife in my windpipe
I can't breathe, but I still fight while I can fight
As long as the wrong feels right
It's like I'm in flight
(This is right after they have an argument. He feels horrible about what he said and did to her but part of him gets a rush out of the fights they have and as long as he still gets the rush he knows it's still going to happen.)
High off of love, drunk from her hate
It's like I'm huffing paint
And I love it the more that I suffer
I suffocate
And right before I'm about to drown she resuscitates me
She fucking hates me and I love it
(Again, he loves and hates her at the same time, the first line says that it's mutual though and she loves/hates him right back and he loves it. She starts the arguments too but right before he decides to leave her she knows just what to do to bring the relationship back but still shows that she hates him at the same time.)
Wait, where you going
I'm leaving you
No you ain't, come back
(Obviously a conversation between the two. I get the feeling that the lines really could alternate either way with either the guy having the first line or the girl. It could be the guy from the previous phrase getting ready to leave the girl, or it could be the girl deciding to leave the guy. either way it's happened before and will happen again.)
We're running right back
Here we go again
It's so insane
'cause when it's going good, it's going great
I'm Superman with the wind in his back
She's Lois Lane
But when it's bad, it's awful
(This is the proof that the previous lines have happened before "Here we go again", but before that it also says that they're going to get back together again. He tries to describe again just how the relationship is, when it's good it's amazing, it could never be better. I like how he understates how it is when it's bad, but he does it to prove a point. The point is that they love each other more than they hate each other and that's why they keep running back to each other despite the constant fights.)
I feel so ashamed
I snapped
Who's that dude
I don't even know his name
I laid hands on her
I'll never stoop so low again
I guess I don't know my own strength
(Pretty self-explanatory IMHO, She was talking to another guy and he got jealous and snapped. I feel that the fact he didn't know the other guy's name is irrelevant, he probably would've snapped anyway. The point here is that it's not just his fault. She was almost egging him on because she knew just how jealous he was but was with that other guy anyway.)

Just gonna stand there and watch me burn
But that's alright because I like the way it hurts
Just gonna stand there and hear me cry
But that's alright because I love the way you lie
I love the way you lie
I love the way you lie
(This describes the love hate relationship they have and how no matter what he does she'll always come right back to him. She's in love with the pain both physical and emotional because of the intensity and rush of emotions that come with it. When she says she loves the way he lies it means that she loves the way he lies to her about how he'll change and it will never happen again even though she knows better and they'll continue to fight)

You ever love somebody so much
You can barely breathe when you're with 'em
You meet and neither one of you even know what hit 'em
Got that warm fuzzy feeling
Yeah, them chills, used to get 'em
Now you're getting fucking sick of looking at 'em
(I think we've all been here at some point. You meet somebody and it's complete head over heels love at first sight. You don't eat, sleep, or anything else much anymore. All you want is to be with that other person. When you think of them you're instantly warm and happy, and you get chills looking at them and realizing how perfect that they are (at least in your own eyes). Then all of a sudden, one day after seeing them forever it's like a wake up call. You suddenly see all of their little imperfections and it makes you almost physically sick. You feel like you never want to see them again, you get angry at them with the hopes that they will leave you alone.)
You swore you've never hit 'em
Never do nothing to hurt 'em
Now you're in each other's face
Spewing venom in your words when you spit 'em
(In the beginning of a relationship you swear you'll treat them like a king/queen, never do anything to hurt them either physically or emotionally. Later on though after things change like above, you start to argue, it starts off small then it gets bigger and bigger.)
You push, pull each other's hair
Scratch, claw, bit 'em
Throw 'em down, pin 'em
So lost in the moments when you're in 'em
It's the rage that took over
It controls you both
So they say it best to go your separate ways
Guess that they don't know ya
'cause today, that was yesterday
Yesterday is over
It's a different day
(The first half describes the fights that they have. It started off verbally above but after a while they built up a tolerance to the verbal fights so it had to get bigger, they started fighting physically. Notice again that Eminem doesn't blame one side or the other, he says that they're both to blame for the fighting because of the emotional rush that they both get from the fights. When they're in either they're good or their bad moments it's like they never want it to end because of the emotional rush both the good and the bad gives them. Again, he says that the rage isn't just him or just her, it's them both. It controls both them and the relationship. The fighting is actually what they have in common, they both need it and it's what keeps them together. They're friends tell them that they're crazy for acting how they do and they need to break up. They both agree that they're friends don't know what they're talking about and don't know them well enough. He lies and promises it won't happen again and that's why they say that today is different than yesterday, even though they both know it's not and they're destined to fight again.)

Sound like broken records playin' over
But you promised her next time you'll show restraint
You don't get another chance
Life is no Nintendo game
But you lied again
Now you get to watch her leave out the window
Guess that's why they call it window pane
(Eminem breaks the forth wall here and talks directly to the listener that's in a normal relationship. In a normal relationship couples often break up after large fights. Eminem tells the listener not to be like the couple in the song and to learn to control themselves because "life is no nintendo game", if a person messes up big odds are that they deserve to be broken up with. I love the play on words he uses at the end with window pane (pain).)

Now I know we said things, did things that we didn't mean
And we fall back into the same patterns, same routine
But your temper's just as bad as mine is
You're the same as me
When it comes to love you're just as blinded
Baby, please come back
It wasn't you, baby it was me
Maybe our relationship isn't as crazy as it seems
Maybe that's what happens when a tornado meets a volcano
All I know is I love you too much to walk away though
Come inside, pick up your bags off the sidewalk
Don't you hear sincerity in my voice when I talk
Told you this is my fault
Look me in the eyeball
Next time I'm pissed I'll aim my fist at the drywall

(I look at this as the guy talking to the girl. The guy says he knows that they didn't really mean what they said when they fought but he also admits that the fighting has now become routine for them. They both expect and accept it. He tries to appeal to her by making her realize that they're the exact same. They both have really bad tempers and so they fight constantly, however neither one of them can see it because of how "love is blind" and they love each other to the fine line of love and hate. He begs her to come back. Once again appeals to how their relationship isn't crazy, it's just how it is because of how they both are and they both love to hate each other. The fact that he uses a tornado and a volcano, two very destructive forces again shows how it's not just one or the other's fault, they both are too jealous, controlling, loving, all at the same time. He takes the blame for this fight though because he knows it will make her come back. He says next time he'll take his anger out on the wall instead of her.)

Next time, there won't be no next time
(I see this as the girls reply, she's starting another fight here. She knows that saying no will make him angry again and start another fight, she knows it's going to happen, but she hates and loves it at the same time.
I apologize even though I know it's lies
(His reply to hers to once again try to get her back. He apologizes for his temper but he knows it's a lie and that they will eventually fight again.)
I'm tired of the games
I just want her back
I know I'm a liar
If she ever tries to fucking leave again
I'mma tie her to the bed and set the house on fire
(this ending is him talking to himself. He's personally starting to get tired of the fights because he knows that they push her away from him. He knows he's lying to himself though and that he knows that he'll start another fight. His jealousy/controlling temper decides that he won't let her leave and he decides what he'll do if she ever actually does leave. I think though that according to the music video that the next time that she tries to leave he does get mad and sets the house on fire, but they both survive as they can be seen outside of the burning building at the end. The fact that they're both on fire is not literal, it's the burning of their relationship, how they both love each other but the fighting is destroying them both. I also think they survive as i believe that they're both kissing in front of the burning house at the end, showing that even though he took such drastic measures, they're both still very much in love.)
this ends my analysis for part 1. Look up "Love The Way You Lie (Part II) [featuring Eminem]" for the next part of my analysis.
