If Kid Cudi didn't want people to think this song was about the New World Order...I feel like he would have been more selective about both naming his song "the Revolution of Evolution" and referencing "big brother" in it...it seems really strangely coincidental... But at the same time, you can totally interpret this in a way that has nothing to do with the NWO. I believe Cudi is talking to everyone about not stressing/worrying because it holds you back and while your trapped in your own self pity and anxiety...there are amazing things going on around you in the world. So when there's a revolution.... You know what...the New World Order makes wayyyy more sense...which I really hate. "I heard they found a solution. Where will you be for the revolution?" -- Solution to all the world's problems, the revolution, and a NWO -- "I am your big brother" "I'm so high up. So high up. And I like it." -- Could be referring to his status in the NWO, not to him being baked, he's high up in the hierarchy, and he likes the luxuries that come with that -- I really don't want to believe this song has to do with the NWO. I love Kid Cudi...and I want to believe this song really is just a portrayal of positive energy, a way to lift everyone's spirits. I really don't know. |

| Kid Cudi – Pursuit of Happiness (Nightmare) (feat. MGMT & Ratatat) Lyrics | 15 years ago |

this song really touches me. there is so much to this song that i don't think many people could get just from hearing it superficially. and this is just my own personal take on it. i don't know if it's right or anything. the first verse is just about the way he lives his life. getting high, getting drunk, driving intoxicated, doing whatever the hell he wants basically and rationalizing it by saying that he knows he's doing stupid things, but at least when he looks back on his life, he won't ever have to say that he didn't live it to the "fullest". and this idea of the "fullest" he portrays is the one most people think is happiness: drinking, partying, getting high, doing whatever the f*** they want and not answering to anyone. that is a lot of people's view on happiness. not his. he says "I know everything that shine ain't always gonna be gold" meaning happiness is not going to come from things like drinking or wealth or any sort of material thing. it's going to come from inside and that's why he is still in his pursuit of happiness because all those things he does to try and be happy are not working. the second verse is pretty amazing to me. "Tell me what you know about dreamin', dreamin' You don't really know about nothin', nothin'" he's expressing that most people don't know what it's like to truly dream. a lot of people dream of getting a new car/house/clothes all these material things. he's saying that that isn't truly dreaming. many people dream of just waking up tomorrow alive. many people dream of finding true love. many people dream of a life where they could actually find some sort of happiness in. "Tell me what you know about them night terrors every night 5 am cold sweats wakin' up to the skies Tell me what you know about dreams, dreams Tell me what you know about night terrors, nothin'" this is when he's talking about how it feels to not even go to sleep at night due to something truly frightening. it could be that you don't have a house to sleep in, hence, "walkin up to the skies", or it could be that horribly deep feeling of absolute loneliness. Kid Cudi's dad passed away from cancer when he was 11. many people disregard this because we hear so much about cancer deaths these days. my mom passed away from cancer 3 months ago and i'm 19. i cannot imagine what it must feel like to go through something like that at the age of 11. losing a parent gives you a permanent feeling of aching loneliness. it hurts so much because no matter how hard life got, you always have your mom and dad. but when one of them is gone, the world seems like a cruel place. i know i've had many sleepless nights and terrors of being completely and utterly alone. this is just my take on this song. either way, this song has helped me get through the hardest moment in my life. and i thank Kid Cudi for that. |
