As i read and analyzed this song's lyrics I keep convincing myself that Katy Perry is talking about the devil in the music industry (illuminati, etc) and how she "dove in" to it just like many other artists do nowadays because it seems so promising. But her, having been Christian in her past, now woke up and realized the trouble she got herself into and wants to get out of there. Let me break down the song into different parts to show you what I mean: "I'm wide awake Yeah, I was in the dark I was falling hard With an open heart I'm wide awake How did I read the stars so wrong..." ^^^ She's awake now and acknowledges that she was in the dark. (Before she didn't realize this because she was hypnotized in a dream. But now she asks herself how things went wrong? "I'm wide awake And now it's clear to me That everything you see Ain't always what it seems I'm wide awake Yeah, I was dreaming for so long…" ^^^ Now everything is clear to her and that everything you see is not what it seems to be. Like the devil presents to you something promising and beautiful but at the end you end up empty, destroyed. She says she was dreaming like hypnotized for song long… she couldn't realize what she was going after… "I wish I knew then What I know now Wouldn't dive in Wouldn't bow down Gravity hurts You made it so sweet Till I woke up on On the concrete…" ^^^ She wishes she knew what she was doing because if she had known what it would bring to her life she wound't have done it. Gravity hurts (like a fallen angel form the sky the devil and demons) that the devil made it seem so "sweet" so appealing, so promising, but in reality is not. once it's over you fall and it hurts. "Falling from cloud 9 Crashing from the high I'm letting go tonight (Yeah I'm) Falling from cloud 9.." ^^^ She's falling from cloud 9. Cloud 9 is like the highest point she could get high. it's a temporary state like euphoria and happiness. The devil can make your dreams come true, he can make you rich and famous but all that he gives doesn't last. Once you reach the highest point the only way to go is DOWN. She's crashing from the sky again like a fallen angel (demon). "I'm wide awake Yeah, I am born again Outta the lion's den I don't have to pretend And it's too late The story's over now, the end,,,". ^^^ Something must have happened in her life that woke her up and made her "born again" or realize who she was and who she is now. She says she's "outta the lion's den" like in the bible says. She's out of the devil control and she doesn't want to hide it anymore. But it's too late. She's did what she did so now she's falling. "Thunder rumbling Castles crumbling I am trying to hold on God knows that I tried Seeing the bright side But I'm not blind anymore I'm wide awake I'm wide awake…" ^^^ Things are going down, she's probably going through a lot of things in her life but she's trying to hold on to the word of God. She tried to see the "bright side" she tried to do things according to the word of God but she couldn't she was weak and she fell. But she says that she's no longer blinded and saw the truth again. |

This song is about a girl who just had enough with this guy she used to love, but she's tired of all the drama involved and decides to move on and encourages him to do the same. "you say you love me but they feel like words to me but this just aint workin, still thinkin you can run over me drifiting, settling up to a foreign place. if i can't see what's in front of me, it's a mystery, but then apparently" (he insists that he loves her, but she no longer believes in him. For some reason they grew apart and love began to fade away. She's now comfortable on her own, making things her own way.) "things just aint the same, and i'm ready for change. go on, be gone, bye bye, so long." (She has changed. The vulnerable love she used to have for this guy faded away. (Again, she tells him to go away. (She tells him she's tired of all the drama they're been through. That he got her messed up) "saw you turn into a ghost right in front of my eyes. tell me what's a girl to do when she's crying inside? i'm about to go insane, i'm jumping off this train, whether wrong or right, i'll be gone by night." (he turned into a ghost in her life. Became part of her past. Their love faded infront of their eyes. No matter how hard it is for her or him, this time there is no going back.) |
