Regina Spektor – Dance Anthem of the 80's Lyrics 13 years ago
Sometimes I think of it as "An addiction, two hands and feet..." as though it's a sort of general description of the human condition; something that most, if not all, of us have in common, making us all somewhat vulnerable but also gloriously connected.

Portugal. The Man – Guns and Dogs Lyrics 14 years ago
"If I never need again I'll find that sleep again" I've noticed the word "need" like this in a few P.tm songs now. I wondered if it relates to substance addiction, like herion. All the members of the band seem to clean in my opinion. I was also intrigued by the line "Though I never pray god reigns today ". I wondered if it meant that despite one's own religious views, or lack thereof, God still plays a significant role on the functioning of small communities. Alternatively it might suggest that despite not practising one's faith one might still consider a higher power which dictates all occurrence.

I don't think stroke is meant to be taken in that way that you would stroke your pet cat but more like having an embolism, again relating to sex/orgasm.

Definitely about sex.

Frightened Rabbit – Keep Yourself Warm Lyrics 15 years ago
I think the two are intended to be euphemisms about sex. The imagery of the bedroom sequence in Naked Gun 2 1/2 come to mind when I hear that lyric.

Kate Bush – The Man with the Child in His Eyes Lyrics 15 years ago
That's the impression I got from listening to this song, in that the man has generally been poorly received by others because he's not quite right in the head but the woman responds to this more affectionately, celebrating his whimsy and child like naivety and also the fact he is at his core a caring and affectionate being. I do however enjoy the idea that it's about masturbation. I think that idea fits really well with a lot of the verses but it doesn't really explain "The Man With the Child in His Eyes" idea...

Jimmy Eat World – Sweetness Lyrics 15 years ago
I don't think it means anything. Something that's forgotten on this forum is that songwriters retain and regularly exercise the ability to write a song about nothing in particular. It's just a collection of idiomatic phrases that happen to sound good in this style and order. To me it's a near perfect pop song.

Minus the Bear – Throwin' Shapes Lyrics 15 years ago
I think you're absolutely right. After listening to this song countless times the metaphor of the "she" in the song being the weather, the sea, or even just water, makes absolute sense. The "sheets" being either torrents of rain or waves, the notion of dancing, it's all there. I think the stepping on toes part refers to how the weather can get to be a nuisance, especially in places where it rains so frequently such as Seattle, but people just get on with their lives and come to accept and even cherish it.
