I think this song was probably written when she was on tour with kings of leon, having to do with the fast paced craziness of that tour and all BUT I always say make it your own... as for me I see the song as a person who is going through a period of drinking, having fun, meeting people etc. She has one love but for many reasons it has not worked out with them though they will always have that connection. She continues to opt to fall down the stairs in the end. I take that literally and as a term for get sloshed. She continues to want to have a good time, to leave the failed relationship be. In a harsh way she chooses addiction and or 'single fun' over the complications of a relationship. |

Well my first thought on it was that the person is talking about how she's gotten into a relationship, let her guard down, has no more thorns. A woman who decided she never wanted children but because she has been conditioned into this conventional love/life/family thing from this relationship, her mind is wavering on the thought. She has no thorns left (reasons not to have children, reasons to disagree) - somewhat a fight between a persons feelings and pa past decisions. She continues to say "I wouldn't raise my child in the city anyway" ect. all the bad things. But during this period she is unsure of whether or not children are the right choice for her. I can see it from many different ways but I guess this is the one I most relate to. |

The song hits hard in me. The author seems to be talking about events and burdens around him and a loved one that they need to escape to get their lives in order to fulfill their love. As for me, I see it as more of a metaphorical 'wrecking ball' - one person left and lost. The other person singing the song is their only limb left, their comfort, their love. He is saving her, and of course he loves just the sight of her sleeping. It reminds me of finding someone who would be able to just risk it, take off, stay home, move to mexico, build a life, wreck a life, as long as they have the other person. The real passion of life and incorporating that into a relationship. 'bags on our shoulders' Yet this line, which is my favorite, makes it ever so innocent "Tell your mom to marry us, a candle to carry us. With cans on our bicycle fenders.. so sweet and hilarious." Makes me want to be young, love young, and die young. |
