Weezer – Island In The Sun Lyrics 15 years ago
I think this song is a basic ontological statement, parodying "Gaunilo’s Perfect Island" argument for the existence of God / paradise and it's relation to thoughts and physical sensations that ensue when high on a mind altering substance.

I think "hip" is a reference to the slang meaning to smoke opiates, and that "I can't control my brain" is a reference to wanting to revisit or to "enter the zone", not to get high but to perceive alternate possibilities than reality cannot offer. This can be seen in:

"When you're on a holiday
You can't find the words to say
All the things that come to you
And I want to feel it too"

As far as the way the song sounds, I pick up a touch of melancholy from the chord progression and the angst in Rivers' voice suggesting that although this form of escape can yield positive outcomes it can also leave one homesick for reality.
