Ok, this song is about 2 sides of town. Like most cities, Boston has "good" and "bad" areas. St. Mary's is a private catholic school in one part of town, where people with money send their kids. East Boston High is nearby in an area called Eagle Hill. So selling joints on the hill is referring to Eagle Hill. The kids from that part of town went their way to play basketball (court is referring to a basketball court, not a legal court) and the kids from their part of town went toward Eagle Hill to purchase alcohol illegally because in the less desirable parts of town you're more likely to find shops willing to skirt the law. If you doubt the song is about high school kids, listen to the bell ringing at the beginning of the song and the kids yelling. Just wanted to clear this up because I love this song. |
