| Nirvana – All Apologies Lyrics | 14 years ago |

This is a song about suicide, plain and simple. "What else should I be, all apologies". He's sorry for not being the person that his fans nor the media wanted him to be even through he'd be lying to himself if he were. "What else can I say? Everyone is gay" For better or worse, his words and lyrics have made tons of people happy and made them look up to him, even though he feels he doesn't deserve it. Therefore, he has nothing else to say, and he feels trapped by it, that people will remember him for all the wrong reasons. "What else can I write? I don't have the right." He just doesn't find joy in writing songs anymore, nor he feels that he should be compared to other, better writers. "In the sun, In the sun I feel as one. In the sun, in the sun, married, buried." This has a far more simpler meaning. "In the sun" he refers to the spotlight of the stage; in other words, before it all got out of hand, when he took to the stage he felt invincible, that he actually stood for something, yet he knew the risks of fame. Therefore, he courted fame, and its that very fame that he he couldn't handle, that will kill him. Just another way of saying "live by the sword, die by the sword." "I wish I was like you, easily amused." He wishes he would've had a normal life, and a broader perspective of things, so that petty things like fame wouldn't affect him so much. "Find my nest of salt, everything's my fault." He talks about his hiding place, be it alcohol or drugs, and his desire to be left alone so he can deal with his own personal turmoil, but since he's a public figure, he can't do that anymore, therefore he'll be accused by anything he does and it will be his fault no matter how hard he tries to defend himself. "I'll take all of the blame, aqua seafoam shame" I think also this has a more simpler meaning. Now that he's resigned to be accused for anything and by everything, he'll take all the blame for everything they'll say that he's done and for everything he'll ever do, for he'll be forever stained with such drek, just like seafoam makes the water look "unhealthy" if you get my meaning. Ever seen water with foam? it looks disgusting. So, he'll take any hit any accusation and responsibility, because by then, he'll be dead and unable to defend himself, nor even care. "sunburn, freezeburn, choking on the ashes of her enemy" That it doesn't matter if it's real or its a taboo, the media and tabloids and everyone that's crazy about his fame will exploit it to ad nauseaum, and make life miserable to the person he loves most, her daughter. He saw from the beginning that the media will never leave Frances alone and therefore the press was "her enemy" and would always be so due to the fact that she's Kurt's daughter. This verse gives deeper meaning to the other three verses: He could not stand seeing the media hound her daughter's every move, and that it was his fault because he brought it all to himself and to his family. This therefore explains the decision he would take and that he took to kill himself. "all in all is all we are." It is not "All alone" like people say, and the meaning is not that "you are who you are". The verse is correct, and in fact, it's more sinister and narrow-minded than what people think. What he means by "all in all..." is that in his state of mind, considering all the fame and fortune that he obtained, he realized that this was it, and there was nothing more to life than what he achieved. This was all that there was in life and that this is what you get, and nothing more. So when you think about it? What else could he do but kill himself? This last verse is the more depressing verse of the song. Because its unfortunately due to Kurt's short attention span on life itself that he wasn't able to see that there was more to life than just fame and money and respect. Yet due to the fact that he didn't have the education nor the vision to appreciate that (let's not forget, he dropped out of high school), his sudden fame and fortune and all the emotional baggage that came with it simply trapped him in a box, and tragically he never could figure out how to get out except by killing himself. He courted fame while at the same time despised it, and that contradiction just simply got to his head. Therefore, he sings "all in all is all we are" because he thought that was it, that there was no more to it. This song is among the saddest songs ever made, and as time passes, it only gets sadder... RIP Kurt. |

After hearing numerous live clips of this song, I think the lyrics are way wrong. Here's what I got out it says Your mouth's a mile away(x8) Your mouth's (argh!) all the way gone Hey, you know me Hey, can't you see? (not "encatuse", whatever the hell that means, and the correct spanish is "me conoces".) Your mouth's... silly (not "slag"). That IMO, makes more lyrical sense. What it means? Well... I think it involves the incredulity of a relationship. WOuldn't be surprised if it's tied up in some sexual way. Either way, this song is friggin' awesome. The energy of it is enough to blast you off your shoes. |

| Pixies – I'm Amazed Lyrics | 15 years ago |

I think many people are losing the basic meaning of the song by reading into it too much. Francis sings basically about a trio of events that he never think he'd do or witness. Hence why he screams in the chorus "I'm Amazed", as in "I can't believe: my wife shot her own head on the day I married her/I played with a ball of string (seriously, other than cats, who does?)/ I'd leave the place I live, and drive my Honda (that small car) and head for Arizona." Heck, the intro may seem unrelated, but it's actually consistent with the song itself, Kim talks about her teacher who got fired after getting caught harrassing the hockey players and the school was really quiet about it. And that's what amazed her: the whole BS attitude of the school board, more than the act itself which by itself it's rather "amazing." - Kickass riff, BTW, great song to rock out to. |
