| This is my favorite song ever. It always gets me. I think the whole song is simply a metaphor for the sinking/drowning feeling you get when someone is falling out of love with you. I love the line "if the line snaps, and there's no air, will you hold me?" It makes me feel like he's dying for her and asking if she really cares or is willing to do anything to save him. Beautifully tragic song. | |

I think this song is about the selfishness everyone has inside them, but the conflicting force of adhering to social norms that makes us act the way we do. Especially the line "I'd drive my car off of a bridge if I knew you weren't inside". I think that's a metaphor for wanting to escape life through suicide, but not being able to cause you realize all the hurt that would inflict on your loved ones. In a sense they would be "inside" the car because it would bring them down with you, possibly to the point of suicide themselves. That's just my interpretation. |
