The Birthday Massacre – Cover My Eyes Lyrics
| 2 years ago
|
It’s a victim of abuse, physical and/or sexual. The speaker feels so bad that they have left their normal life and emotional wellbeing. They are in a realm of hurt and oblivion. They are now somehow killing themselves or having someone else do it for them and saying “Cover my eyes tonight/Don’t let me see the light” while this is happening to make their end less emotionally unpleasant.
Yes, some of the lyrics are incorrect but were never corrected by the website after seven years. I don’t know why they didn’t make it editable by registered users or in a wiki format. Also, these same incorrect lyrics are on other websites that are “powered by LyricFind” as though LyricFind paid people to just listen and transcribe and not do a good job. Awful. |

Holly Throsby – Now I Love Someone Lyrics
| 6 years ago
|
Now *I* love someone. Like those young families you see in insurance ads haha. It came out of nowhere. No it didn't, it's a huge, beautiful tree that grew from a small, delicate seed that she planted just over a year ago on Messenger. It fills my chest up with authentic, time-consuming love and makes me want to cry about dreams past and future. |

Hooters – All You Zombies Lyrics

To me it's just nonsensical. It's only played on commercial radio because it's radio-friendly and it was part of the early 80s era. |

Duffy – Rockferry Lyrics

I agree that it's "trunk" - she wouldn't be packing a truck when she was talking about the trains just before. Although I still think it's "pick", unless it's an artefact of the Welsh accent? |

Duffy – Rockferry Lyrics

"The midnight trains are boarding
All wrap up 8s"
Huh?
I have not been able to find the meaning of the second line and all other lyrics sites just have a variation on it. I suspect dodgy transcription. I had thought it was "All reprobates"
Can anyone shed any light on it? |

Hooverphonic – Renaissance Affair Lyrics
|
I have thought about the phrase "Spacing from Paris to New York" for a long time and was taken by the otherworldly mystery of it. I wondered whether "spacing" was something specific - new words like that appear all the time in the urban jungle.
In the context of the lyrics, it might well mean the painful space between the two people having the affair.
I had also just recently noticed the line "Spacing in Vienna" in the song 'Nr. 9', which deepens the mystery again.... Maybe Alex Callier just thought the word sounded good. But then, that's just art and poetry. |

Hooverphonic – Renaissance Affair Lyrics

I think it's a bit of both. You can see that some words and wording are there to convey a particular atmosphere or feeling (which I adore because it expresses something beyond mundane experiences), but then it abruptly changes to real interpersonal love song language and I wonder about the deeper meanings of all of what came before and the general thrust of what the lyrics are trying to say.... Hooverphonic does that kind of thing and it is magical. |

The Smiths – This Night Has Opened My Eyes Lyrics

"that’s the best thing a girl can be in this world, a beautiful little fool.”
In the 1922 world of The Great Gatsby, yes. But not today. I know a beautiful little fool girl. I couldn't stand her. They have to be capable. |

MGMT – Time to Pretend Lyrics
|
What people have said is pretty much it. I feel that my life is gradually moving away from a fantasy and becoming more "normal" with the usual things: car, study, job, relationships, a mortgage, marriage, a family and I'm pretty sure that I.T. is the right line of work for me but sometimes it feels like a "placeholder" to put there until something better comes along. Like I'm pretending that those things are the ultimate objectives in life because people say they are. When I become involved with those things there's definitely a sense of "time to pretend." Were we really fated to pretend? |

Bat for Lashes – Two Planets Lyrics

This seems to come direct from another land and era. This is so intense. It's like, is that enough mythology for you? I can hear her soul being consumed in a fire of passion, dance and energy. It's almost too much for everyday casual listening when you're in the car going to the shops lol. Not that I don't like it. She really takes it to the next level of...just...whoa. |

Bat for Lashes – Good Love Lyrics

The spoken second verse is an echo of the Fur & Gold album. A mixture of What's A Girl To Do and The Wizard. Very Fur & Gold-ish.
I just love how she sings "in a dream" in the chorus <3 <3 <3 |

I like it! The rootsy gospel sound is a refreshing change and I love that she's trying things like this. It's a very good sign and an indicator (among many) of quality and substance. |

Bat for Lashes – Sleep Alone Lyrics

I definitely felt closest to my girlfriend when we were in bed at night. Not in the obvious way but there was a strange and powerful mood that always descended over us that made us feel serious and solemn and sincere as if we were saying goodbye and this is how I really feel about you and we would say how we felt: I love you and you mean everything to me. Being in love is a wonderful thing to have happen to you. |

Bat for Lashes – Glass Lyrics
|
The line is actually:
That just wouldn't see
The chorus begins with:
To be made of glass!
The ! is important because it conveys the whole context ("Wouldn't it be great to be made of glass")
I've submitted the ACTUAL lyrics from the booklet for the album but apparently they have to be checked by the copyright owner for approval. As if that will happen any time soon. I don't know how the copyright owner approved the lyrics that are there! Some of it is dead wrong. |

Live – Shit Towne Lyrics

I think most people describe the town they live in when they're 16 as a s*** town. My sister and I did. But we're 33 now and she still lives there haha. I live 5km 3mi away. So there goes our argument. :)
BTW what's with the E on the end of Towne? |

Metallica – Nothing Else Matters Lyrics
|
Growing up I was never into metal at all. I didn't like it. I'm now 33 and I find myself listening to, liking and appreciating so many things. I finally see this song for what it is and admire it and respect it highly. As someone said before it's about brotherhood and friendship as well as love and all the relationships you have that are of substance, rather than those so-called f***ing "Friends" on Facebook. It's about solidarity with the people of substance and recognizing that we are of substance and we value ourselves and those people. Anyone who has a different view of us can go to hell and they don't matter nor will ever matter. This song affirms life and ourselves. Metallica are good role models. This is the opposite conclusion to what I was led to believe when I was a kid. |

Bat for Lashes – Daniel Lyrics

Forever to search for the flame
"Flame" is what it really sounds like and it fits the theme of flame and fire throughout the song.
This song expresses so well a love discovered and then lost. Believe me, I know what that feels like. Absolutely beautiful.
And as my house spun round
Yes, that's a reference to The Wizard of Oz. The imagery is woven together so well and so subtly.
My dreams pulled me from the ground
Just that line expresses so much. Natasha is so, so talented as a singer and songwriter. We've found a source of beauty. |

This song makes me want that woman and that kind of relationship so much. It's such wonderful lyrics. If I played piano or guitar I would want to be able to play it. It's so underrated. It's been forgotten. Robert Palmer had such class and had his eyes on the prize. What we all should strive for but don't. |

Chris Rea – On The Beach Lyrics
|
"A day of STRANGE desire"
The word 'strange' is interesting. Could the song be about a gay rendezvous?
"Behind those guarded walls I used to go" and "The secrets of the summer I will keep" again sounds to me like it was 'not quite kosher', at least at the time.
Even so, it's a song I absolutely love as it has romance, class as well as the strong atmosphere of being by the beach in a very relaxing, calm environment. It's a song that is from a purely laid-back, sand-between-toes-no-watch-on-looking-at-the-surf-in-the-late-afternoon place :) |

Sorry if this brings something trite or inappropriate into it, but when I hear this I can't help thinking of the events of 11 September 2001. The lyrics express it in such a powerful way that it can't be ignored. "What we were then/Now we are not" Though I doubt that Sinead herself would approve of this interpretation :P |
