When I hear 'I've a feeling you'll be kneeling, when the day turns forever into night' I don't think it has anything to do with animal rights people. The verse is aimed at 'my old man' so I'm guessing either her father or an old lover. The day turning forever into night could be a personal end I.e death or it could be the end of the world which is something of a theme in the album. So him kneeling at this point might be to beg forgiveness for his life or to seek relief from a god. It sounds mocking.
Besides the recurring love for human kind line there's not much in here about animals. The first verse reminds me of 'not for sale'/'animals': a hit back at all the men from her past. The rest I'm not sure about. Who are the bastard widows born marooned? Must be pretty lonely and for.orn whoever they are |

It's interesting that ceremony at the start can be interpreted as either a wedding or a funeral. I think it's a wedding personally, I don't know why there'd be shouting at a funeral. The flowers scattered could be confetti and bouquets as easily as funeral flowers.
I think Curtis' early marriage was one of the greatest sources of unhappiness to him. |

To me this song is about sleeping with someone special you've had a history with. She sings about 'all of the past and it's regrets' to me that says that they are not together anymore and that it has been painful readjusting. But now they are forgetting that for the moment and losing themselves in the pleasure of love making to escape the loneliness and pain of their breakup. They are comfortable together and are trying to recreate the sweet wonderful times they had when they first started their relationship. While it might not last or do any long term good, they are completely lost to that and are desperately clinging to one another and to forgetting. They want to know and think about nothing but to pretend things are still as they were for one night. |
