I think while most of Europe uses the metric system, in UK they still use miles and feet and inches and stuff a lot. Also where do you think the U.S. got it's measuring system from? Don't pin me down on it but I think since the U.S. was heavily influenced by Britain it seems likely they have adopted theirs.
On a side note it's also the much better mental image right? XD I can see him with his 40 feet ahead either step by step fighting through or taking the leap down. 40 like...meters? sounds kinda clumsy... |

Ha ha just read the comments above from ObsessiveTendencies, so it's NOT his son. Well that's what a friend of mine told me I guess you better check your facts before you blurt them out into the world! XD His son HAS an cameo on this album though... |

Well that's all the more disturbing if you note that it's his son singing the 'guitar riff' in this song...and it's funny because I thought pet was about child abuse/an abusive relationship even before I knew this and was very surprised about all the bush/war arguing. |

As well as the whole album concept reminds me a lot of downward spiral from NIN this song reminds me of 'a warm place' from that very album just in a somehow less honest and more creepy way but just as a warm place it's kind of a resting/delirium moment before something new begins. |

Well actually 'It's in the Water' is a movie from 1997. The plot deals with some small-town conservatives and their prejudice against homosexuality after several people in the town have come out. The people think 'It's in the water'....XD
Could be just a coincidence. But the first thing I thought about when I read the title was this song, and knowing how much Brian Molko likes to play on themes like homosexuality, gender bender and other stuff in his lyrics...
