Lyrical correction: The days keep dragging on Those rats keep pushing on, woah The slowest race around We all just race around, woah And when the hope's gone the weight falls on me Yeah, when I'm gone the weight falls on me No sense in signing up, you're names already in Go ahead, yeah fuck it up, the next guy pays for it Cause what I get ain't half of what I give And half don't suit me anyway Cause what I get ain't half of what I give And half don't suit me anyway Maybe I sacrifice to feel like I'm alive Penniless, it's all the same At least I'll die with a name I aint dead yet! Give it back Or i'll take it Give it back Or i'll take it Or I'll take it Maybe I sacrifice to feel like I'm alive Penniless, it's all the same At least I'll die with a name Maybe I sacrifice to feel like I'm alive Penniless, it's all the same At least I'll die with a name I aint dead yet! Give it back Or I'll take it Give it back Or I'll take it And when the hope's gone the weight falls on me Yeah, when I'm gone the weight falls on me |

| Darkest Hour – Doomsayer (The Beginning Of The End) Lyrics | 12 years ago |

A friend and I were discussing this song earlier, and I think you've got it wrong, cob151. Keeping in mind Undoing Ruin was a lyrical masterpiece about depression, pain, and grief, this song (first one on the next record- probably not an accident) takes on a new meaning. To me, it's John giving advice to those who are still lost in pain and suffering. "Only you can save you." John is the doomsayer because he's speaking about impossibilities. Feel better?! Impossible! ("You're living at the end") But John, no longer in a bad place, offers to show the sufferer "everything that [he'll] never see." This is a reference to better things and brighter days. John also adds a comforting "you're not alone" for support. Anyone who's ever dealt with depression knows how it can feel inescapable, which is why the Doomsayer lyrics make a lot of sense to me. I think if one were to listen to Tranquil from Undoing Ruin and listen to Doomsayer right afterwards my interpretation would make that much more sense. It's a continuation of the concept of "pushing on and getting on with life." |

This song is chilling. The emotion is so raw. "When our eyes meet do you know the man beneath?" My favorite line. |

Obviously "seed of blood" is actually "SCENT of blood." Great classic song. Can't get enough. |

| It's not about Paul Gray. Both Corey and Josh have stated in interviews Corey wrote it about his wife. | |
| Avenged Sevenfold – Save Me Lyrics | 15 years ago |

Not sure the band ever said the Rev wrote these lyrics... in fact, I thought I saw that Shadows said Save Me was one of the songs for which he re-wrote the lyrics after the Rev's passing. I could be wrong, of course. I'm surprised no one has said this yet, but I think the line "tonight we all die young" is definitely referring to the surviving band members each dying a little bit along with their best friend and brother. By far the best song on Nightmare, and possibly the best song Avenged has ever written. |

| Sebastian Bach – Angel Down Lyrics | 15 years ago |

I've always taken this song to be about a group of soldiers who have been through hell and are still being asked to put their lives on the line by their superior officers. The "I" in this song is the CO of the unit, and he's taking his unit's side. The first two stanzas is the CO describing the state of his unit, and the "step aside" line is the CO telling his superiors to piss off when they want to send them back into battle. The "Angel down" part is one of his men going down under fire. The final two stanzas make it seem like the CO's superiors are telling him his unit will get a break ("fake lies") but that he doesn't buy it ("this soothing makes me very afraid") and subsequently tells his men to prepare for battle ("paint your eyes and bite your tongue"). That's the best I got. |
