| Johnny Cash – Hurt (Nine Inch Nails cover) Lyrics | 15 years ago |

I don't know what this song was intended to be about but my interpretation is drug addiction. The lyrics completely point in that direction. To me, it's about a selfish person who is a heroin addict. "The needle tears a hole, the old familiar sting, try to kill it all away, but I remember everything" What he's killing away is his personal demons. I think this next part is about him realising what he's becomming/doing and that he's losing all the people close to him. With drug addiction that is what often happens. "what have I become, my sweetest friend, everyone i know, goes away in the end" I love the part where the song says "you are someone else, i am still right here" ... the addict is stuck in a hole, and his loved ones can no longer 'love' this man in the same way. "i will let you down, i will make you hurt" this rings true for EVERYONE who knows a drug addict. they let you down and make you hurt. this song is perfect and i am absolutely in love with it! |
