Hey Kyle, That post was actually by me three years ago, but I have not used the account for so long I have forgotten the password and the e-mail account I used for it has lapsed, so I had to set up a new one! I did want to clarify what I meant though. I'm not dismissing all religion rules as bad at all; I am a born again, committed follower of Jesus. Perhaps I didn't do a good job of clearly saying what I meant. Of course rules are valuable, as if we follow the Lord we are to live in a way that brings him honour. What I meant was this (I hope I explain this well): rules in religion, when used as a way to express our love for the Lord and our honour for him, or as a pointer so we can understand His character, then they are more precious than diamonds. Yet, if rules are being fulfilled out of duty, and the love of God is not there, they are worth little. Also, if man made rules are created that come between us and God, then those are not worth anything. So it depends on the context. I think I was also thinking that many readers would think of religion as rules, and not realise you could have a relationship with God who care about us, and I was perhaps trying to meet that point of view (I'm not sure how successfully. I hope that helps. If you want to chat more, feel free to e-mail me, I would be interested to hear about your faith. I'm not sure if you will read this, but I hope you will. Peace. |
