My friend was once in a relationship like this, she was Japanese like me (her other half was Chinese) , she committed suicide... I still miss her you'll see by the end and I think he is talking about how he is entranced by her, how already he can't live without her, how he is a wreck without her, How she seems so fleeting, so beautiful, so delicate, and yet she seems so real, "I hear her heart beating, loud as thunder" her mixture of a new world and her old ways are charming Her simple life is enough for her, a simple apartment, a simple bob haircut, but she also goes by the old ways, She wears the clothes of the "old country" and that in it self is beautiful. When she threw the rice, it is a sign of prosperity in many traditions, like those I adhere to. But he thinks this is fleeting, he thinks he is bad for her, "My little China Girl You shouldn't mess with me" and it undermines them, and he tells her this, "And when I get excited My little China Girl says Oh baby just you shut your mouth She says ... sh-sh-shhh" and she tries to sooth him, and it works for a while. But he still thinks "I stumble into town just like a sacred cow Visions of swastikas in my head Plans for everyone It's in the whites of my eyes" that's he can't be any good for her.... I was sick so I finally wrote this, because I had time! It is the underground world of the 70s as Lou Reed saw it, I originally thought it was written in the 80s, but I realized it was how Lou saw the world was going to be like. These themes refer to people, even after forty years, I can still think of people this refers to. Should you read "The Time Traveler's Wife" you will find that this song perfectly describes Henry and Claire's life when they were younger. A life where doc martins, cross dressers, bisexuals (such as myself), and mundane chores all over lap. You first see their club life, where every one knows every one, and then you see their day life, where every one is "normal" clerks, bankers, etc. And the ending is just general truths of life. Much like "Perfect Day" |
