Without actually researching the lyrics, when I listened to this song, I interpreted it as kind of embracing a new era of human interaction. These days, people are always traveling, and many people find themselves meeting people over the internet who are thousands of miles away. The song to me seems to illustrate lovers who are separated by distance, but communicate through "satellites" (or the internet) so even with the distance, they can feel the presence of each other's love through technology. I tend to imagine the desolate night sky or even desolate places on earth that are filled with human presence because of the vast amounts of radio waves silently passing by(hehehe I'm so corny...) |

Nooo! People need to stop generalizing economists as greedy people!!!! I am both a nature lover and an economics major :) But I think you hit the nail on the head with interpreting the song (and your comment is very articulate). It's like society has turned into an cold, emotionless machine extracting oil, cutting down trees, building smoke-stack factories, to gain more power, drive more growth, and expand only to convert more life into manufactured products (almost like a growing virus) just so we can sit on our fat asses and stare at the glowing plasma screen all day like robots because the jersey shore marathon is on. "All the birds and all that grows are Tapping at the natives in my soul" |

I agree with kearnsy88 in the sense that it reminds me of technology and industrialization. A simple love theme would be too shallow for me. The girl or person he is referring to, could be a lover or even just a good friend. In lines such as "where you can't get what you want but you can get me" or "looking out on the day of another dream" I think of it as trying to escape the "real world" with industrialization, politics, you're job, or whateverrrr to separate yourself with someone like a simple friend just trying to enjoy life in some alternate created reality like a 'plastic'(fake) beach or paradise :) like two children laying on the grass looking at the clouds. All you need in life is a good friend! (or significant other if you'd prefer to put it that way) |
