| Jack Johnson – Hope Lyrics | 15 years ago |

Those that have a connection to their soul would agree that this entire album of Jack's appears to be written based on speaking of the experiences of his soul. To me this song is about your higher self, your soul. Your "shadow" is your soul. It teaches you many lessons in life and tries to make you see that the only answer is internal unconditional love. In order to reach that inner peace you need to heed the warnings, and know that your soul has given you these tests to teach you to love yourself before you can love others. The chorus "you better hope you're not alone" just alludes to the fact that if you don't see that your soul has control of all experiences in your life, and that is trying to teach you something every time (especially when you repeat the test), then you will continue to repeat those experiences until you have learnt the lessons and felt the emotions that had to eventuate from those experiences. Jack is spot on when it comes to explaining the way your soul teaches you the lessons you have to learn. This song always makes me aware that everything that happens in my life happens for a reason, and therefore is an ultimate test of love. Well done to Jack for putting it so eloquently!!! |
