Titles of works of artists give us many clues if you think about it. Book titles and song titles should follow the same logic. Xerces was a beautiful blue butterfly now gone forever. Never see this alive again. Heaven is repeated several times...but in the context of Universe (sung at the begining) this would seem to imply that all is lost with this life (Earth), that destruction (a comet) is on its way or one of many dooms facing us. We need to be brave "I dont know, I could stay or leave right away" leaves us to think that there is choice involved and saying good bye multiple times and ending with feels like a message of 'be brave' and follow me possibly. Therefore the mass extinction is a plausible idea as being perhaps a way to follow Xerces....Anybody knows how to ask the artists, then they usually dont know how there art pans out either! Fantastic song..breathtaking and the only ode suitable for the once beautiful butterfly. The song is permeated with sadness and rightly so. |
