CoarseAir said it came straight from nick that this song is about depression. Even without that being said, I do believe it is about depression. The source of depression could come from a failed relationship, but it seems the song is more about "how can I use my time to get myself out of this depression." He's having a hard time writing songs, the creativity just isn't flowing. When he's alone with his significant other, it's so silent that all he can focus on is a heartbeat. I doubt it's literal, but someone did mention before (HRslammR, SavageMadrox) that this song could be about a relationship where both persons know it's going to end, but they are still trying to make it work. So, the silence just brings these things to the surface. When you're depressed, it feels very much like something's missing. there is an emptiness. and that begs the question "can you hear the void I describe?" So basically, "What do i do with myself?" is the theme of this song, hence the confusing use of time. |
