| Wire – Ahead Lyrics | 2 years ago |

Suprised no one's noted the meaning of this song which I thought was reasonably well known/clear. Its about vivsection. The growing lips and peeled eyes are of animal experiments, as are the "full board in new quarters" (presumably a cage in a lab). "TV doesn't understand a word that matters" I think refers to the word vivisection in this case. Its a bit hard to google "wire ahead" to get a refernce, but I know I read it somewhere. |

| Whoops didnt notice someone had already pointed this out haha! I worked it out in the late 90s on a 4AD forum. | |

To elaborate on Aniland's excellent transcript, I always loved the sly self referential part of this songs lyrics: And I am not very well read And did you say that I will lose my house? And can you spare me of my pain? And can you spare me of my tears? Read/House/Pain/Tears red house painters :) |

| of Montreal – The Past Is a Grotesque Animal Lyrics | 13 years ago |

The relentless buildup of this song, with basically no release, no expected ending, just a constant tense agitated musing on a messed up, obsessive relationship. It captures that so incredibly well. I think the lack of release, just this constant driving, irritated beat, is what makes this song so amazing. |

| Because "wolds" are limestone hills in England, is why :) eg the Cotswolds. | |
| Throwing Muses – Hate My Way Lyrics | 13 years ago |
| In Hersh's memoir "Rat Girl" she tells a story about a conversation with a young pamphlet-distributing punk kid who was talking about "killing god" and "rising above the church" and he used a bunch of muddled analogies about "if you were a smack freak, you'd hate society" and "if you were in the holocaust you'd hate Hitler", which is what inspired the first part of this track as far as I can tell. Its interesting to see songs come from such a specific, and plain source sometimes! | |
| Bauhaus – Dark Entries Lyrics | 14 years ago |
| Why do the credits for this say "written by Michael Burkat"? Ive no idea who he is, but google suggests he's some current techno producer.. surely shome mishtake, here. | |
| Disco Inferno – The Last Dance Lyrics | 14 years ago |
|
That last verse goes, as far as I know, like this: Small hopes flash past and wave While foreign forces wait and pray And a fear of the future beats so deep in our hearts That we’ll all but destroy ourselves Like the centuries-old feuds
 Being upgraded with high-tech weapons
In the end it's not the future But the past that'll get us I always believed that ideas cost lives That's why I was always in line For the sacrifice But now my eyes point ahead
Away from the ghosts of the dead |

| Tim Buckley – Song To The Siren Lyrics | 14 years ago |
| Oh my goodness. As much as you rightly defend Buckley, please *please* don't ever accuse This Mortal Coil/Elizabeth Fraser's version of this song as having been auto-tuned, for the love of god. Thats purely her voice. Thats how she sings. There's nothing "synthesized" about it and to think anyone would think otherwise makes my head hurt! | |
| Telefon Tel Aviv – Helen Of Troy Lyrics | 15 years ago |

Can I add my interpretation? It's a little diff. Your face is the place Where it ends Where it ends I begin Yet again With your face Back at the end At the end Follow me in the car Off a bridge We won't go far Down we go Down below To the end To the end At the end I’ll see your face Once again Until then... |

| Frank Zappa – City of Tiny Lites Lyrics | 15 years ago |

This song is not sung by Zappa which might be why you feel he "sounds like the singer of the Cult" - this is sung by Adrian Belew from King Crimson. Personally I think this is a great track. |
