Yeah, it's a suicide song. Plain and simple. There are many great ones: "Fade to black" by Metalica "Soup" by Blind Melon is an awesome song. There are many more. Too me this is an absolute masterpiece. She proclaims to not be creative. It sounds too me like she would rather not be writing it at all, at the time, and writes the song in spite of her own unwillingness. "When my pen hit the paper". Like she's a stranger to herself and she's simply given up and is just trying to write something inane, but can't help making something great. Instead of really describing the pain, at the end she confines herself to just stating outright that it hurts. Like some sort of anti-poem. There's an amazing simplicity in the words "I don't want to be here". And the arrangement of the song does not add a second verse, which adds to the whole feeling somehow. Other musicians sometimes use this arrangement too. |

I love this song. It is quite obviously about wanting to die. An overt expression of a deathwish, even if it's a temporal or a conditional one. No doubt about that in my mind. The title could be alluding to the typical musicians death at 27, but that's only speculation. |
