Green Day – Jesus of Suburbia Lyrics 13 years ago
Right... "From the cradle to the grave" was also borrowed... That's the title and main theme of a song by The Subhumans, which also happens to be a really long song. No doubt Billie Joe saw some parallels between that song and this one and likely was heavily influenced by it.

Rise Against – Savior Lyrics 14 years ago
I'm inclined to believe that this song is mainly about the relationship between mother nature and humanity, much like The Good Left Undone. However, as a song writer myself, I have written songs that simultaneously mean two or three different things. Even when I go back and read my own lyrics, I interpret them differently based on how I'm feeling at the time, so this may be one of those kind of songs. Whatever the meaning, the general theme seems to be failed salvation.

Also, food for thought: the video features people in animal suits caught up in the chaos of a mosh pit. After the chaos has ended it shows one animal limping along, injured, while another passes by in a bus. The animal in the bus presses the stop button and helps the injured animal onto the bus. This is pretty good evidence that Tim interprets it mainly as an environmental song.

I agree with orangecrunch. There is a reason why it's Resist Stance, not resistance. It's a song against extremism. It asks people to keep an open mind and always base their views on the evidence at hand, not on any sort of preconceived notion about the way things ought to be. It seems to me that Greg views education, particularly in the scientific fields, as a form of resistance in and of itself. Science is rebellious in that it incessantly questions the world around us and the halfwitted social and political constructions followed by the masses. He's asking (not telling, No Direction pretty blatantly says that that isn't his goal) people not to take a stance, but to remain as a leaf blowing in the wind; swayed by logic and reason supported by scientific evidence, not the media, politicians, or social movements.
