LCD Soundsystem – All My Friends Lyrics 11 years ago
I agree with grd, "You spend the first five years trying to get with the plan / And the next five years trying to be with your friends again" sounds like going to college or getting a dead-end job just to pay the bills and save for your future, then realizing all the great times with your friends that you missed out on and trying to catch up on them.

Frightened Rabbit – Backyard Skulls Lyrics 11 years ago
The lines about "suburban adultery" and "smiling at the hypocrisy" make sense in this context. I also really like the double meaning in "no exes mark this spot"

Dave Matthews Band – The Dreaming Tree Lyrics 14 years ago
RE: your Giving Tree comparison
Dave actually recognized the similarity in an interview around the time of the album's release.
"I think those lyrics are the strongest and the furthest from anything I've ever written before, so I'll probably get slated. People will be like, 'That really sucks. What the hell is he talking about? Oh, doesn't he sound like Shel Silverstein. Prick.'"
More insight into the meaning of the song, but I found that to be particularly interesting.

Guster – On The Ocean Lyrics 14 years ago
In the chorus, it sounds more like "but I won't hold on anyway." Anyone else hear that?
