Brand New – Daisy Lyrics 12 years ago
The boy is saying: "Uh, by the will of thee, he wasn't finding anybody when he was on a shelf. I saw him in my dream"

And the lyrics sang over the last chorus are: "You've done enough to be saved, but you're gonna miss out now you don't know your rights from your wrongs. It's the greatest of love. Now don't say you'll be there and then leave, or don't mention all the hurt that you've seen, or don't say he's in love. It's the greatest of love"

Brand New – You Stole Lyrics 12 years ago
I'm sorry, but not every Brand New song is about bloody religion. I mean, jeez! This site's awful for it. I'm expecting to go onto the Magazines lyrics and see someone claim it's about forcing/losing/rejecting faith, too.

Religion is a huge, huge thing. It's easy to see it in too many things. "Said our prayers" does NOT necessarily mean that they're religious. I'm an atheist but could still be accused of calling my other half God in bed. It just means that they couldn't do anything practical, and opted to hope for the best. The fires do not refer to Hell, I highly doubt that the list of all the places they hate is the numerous places to have incurred God's wrath, Brand New don't have a secret map that shows where God sleeps, neither are they planning on assassinating him this evening. I know most of this hasn't been suggested yet but I just felt the need to point out none of these are reasonable ideas.

As far as most fans think, Jesse was religious and now isn't so much. That doesn't make him an antitheist. It doesn't mean that 95% of the songs Brand New record are a slam against religion. "Seek and ye shall find"? Exactly what you're doing here.

Also the band said in an interview that Daisy was experimental more than anything. There's no "solid" meaning behind most of the lyrics on there.

Shakespear's Sister – Stay Lyrics 13 years ago
I really don't think it's a song about suicide, I agree with those who think the song's about being obsessed with a person, the the point it drives you crazy.

I think the lines "you must only think of me / there can be no in between" show this obsession with the person she is singing about, and the lines "When your pride is on the floor / I'll make you bed for more" could either mean that once he loves her as completely as she loves him she'll keep it that way or that she knows she is like this and can't help herself.

I think the song gets more and more obsessive throughout too. The first verse is sweet and just as she just doesn't want to lose him. The second verse is kind of sinister, especially if you watch the video and see how she acts while bathing him. And I think Marcella's parts are more to show the frightening side to that obsession, and that side is warning both the narrator of Siobhan's part and the person she's obsessed with.
