definitely about losing innocence/childhood. kind of makes me think of how our childhood shapes us into beautiful flowers then as we get older we lose that innocence and become more rough and raw. i kind of get an image of drug/alcohol experimentation in this song too. like it tears the petals off of you and you tell the truth, get more raw. this song is sad but it isn't sung that way, it's sung like it is inevitable and everyone will get screwed up by life somehow & lose their innocence. such a good song & i definitely think this is courtney at her best. |

The first time I heard this song, I cried. To me this is definitely a song about someone (the singer) who has cheated on her boyfriend or love. This is obvious in the lines "would you leave me if I told you what I'd done.." etc. The light in his eyes is gone because he doesn't understand why she is feeling strange and conflicted. He knows that she is hurt and wants to fix the problem "You want a revelation, you wanna get it right" but she can't have that conversation because then she would have to tell him about cheating. Another reason that there is no light is that there hadn't been for a while (light = excitement, new love, devotion) in the relationship, and that is the reason that she cheated in the first place. But after doing so, she realizes that it made her feelings towards him more intense and that she feels worse "I never knew daylight could be so violent" . The daylight shows everything in real light (truth), it shows her how she really feels about him and now she just wants him to stay. The person that she cheated on is obviously a someone who she really really cares about and someone that is very close to her hard (hence the first lines of the song). Also the "you cant choose what stays and what fades" may either relate directly to her (he cant choose to make her stay; he cant control if she is leaving), or it could relate to the relationship itself. I love this song, it's so desperately emotional. Sadly, I can definitely relate to this song. It's never worth it to cheat and it's so painful when you can't tell the person you love that you can't be with them anymore because you cheated on them. |

this song is amazing. it's kind of overlooked on the album i think... but it's great. it's like at the end of sunset, once the sky is kind of purple-grey & these kids are just out here, on their bikes. reminds me a lot of John Green's "Paper Towns". |

I think this song is about being with someone who is not your significant other. I think it's about cheating but it's justified. Other people cant understand why these people (cheaters) are together ("Gonna take me from my man...No they'll never understand") but they feel like they have always needed to be together, despite what other people say. This song is about heartbreak and needing to be with someone. I also think it could be about preparing for a journey |
