This is a disturbing yet exceptionally thought provoking composition. It is certainly about pain of loss or yearning as sung the way the main vocals are in the original.There is a marked degree of conflict occurring between the main vocals and that of the chorus. There is a command made...then a reply. The brother tries to tempt her but she unwaveringly retorts with commandment-like statements. There is a moral struggle. Do you know what Shagri-La is? It is a mythical place of bliss and delight. I don't think your assumptions are the least bit awry when it comes to an incestuous inference in this piece. |
