I don't mean any harm, you can trust me like you would trust your own brother. But he is much nicer. "I won't die easily," thats what they say when I erupt into laughter. The doctor puts on a face to tell her she couldn't have babies. To tell her she couldn't have babies. I don't mean any harm, you can trust me like you would trust your own brother. Maybe even better. "I won't die easily," that's what you said after you watched the disease spread. The doctor conceals a grin to tell her she couldn't have babies. To tell her she couldn't have babies. |

All this dirt is my disease Please, Please Wanted hands but I got knees You drop by to help me out Out, Out Baby, what's all this about? Your thoughts are better than your words. I wanted bees, but I got birds. There's no room and there's not time So you scratch yours and I'll scratch mine It's into winter, but it's hot. I guess I do believe in God But I'll forgive and make it right If it freezes up tonight So cross your fingers say a prayer You don't believe but I don't care You either win it or you don't It happens now, or else it won't Cross your fingers, say a prayer You don't believe but I don't care You either win it or you don't It happens now, or else it won't |

.... I can see the sun Earth goes round, hold on tight Droop your lids, single strides Bound by bridges, nothing more I love them Trees and mountains will shout down Dreams of days, done and gone Whisper where, ill close one eye With a breath be in your arms That's what it sounds like to me. |

This song is obviously about his friend that died, but I feel that it can also apply to someone who has undergone a traumatic life-threatening event. At least that's what I thought of when I first heard it, and it's still what I think of when I listen it today. Say the first verse perfectly describes someone reminiscing a traumatic event. And the second verse talks about the changed persona of the person "you seem so bruised, and it's beautiful as it's reflecting off from you", and how they have turned to self-mutilation to cope, and how they don't want other peoples' help, or they don't think others can help them. The third verse touches on how these instances can cause people to be very distant and unable to connect emotionally anymore "press yourself against whatever you can find" leading to cavalier relationships with others. The holiday implication I feel could refer to the traumatic event/events, I don't think it is supposed to be literal. And then he ends the song with "im so happy that you didn't die" in such a depressing tone it almost implies the exact opposite. Like it would have almost been better for this person to die in the event rather than live with the consequences. Well that's what this song says to me. Because I feel it is a pretty tight fit. |
