| Johnny Cash – Hurt (Nine Inch Nails cover) Lyrics | 13 years ago |

While Mr. Cash may have related to this song, he did not write the song, therefore any meaning the lyrics have only truly relate to and come from Trent Reznor, the man who wrote this song. Mr. Cash did perform this song eloquently and perhaps he did relate to it. You can only speculate on how and why he chose this song. From what I've read, it was picked by a producer or friend as a song Mr. Cash could cover for his upcoming studio release. Please refrain from linking particular lyrics of this song to Johnny Cash's life. It is irrelevant and disrespectful to pretend you know what he related to in this song. What I am trying to say is you can't just say "Oh, this song is about Johnny's morphine addiction," Because, simply put, it's not. |

| Stone Sour – Through Glass Lyrics | 13 years ago |
| I had a friend who told me that this song reminded him of how he felt when he found me after losing touch for a few years. I had changed, and I was struggling with an addiction of my own. He felt he couldn't see me as I currently was, that I was trapped behind some sort of glass box (my addiction). And he felt hopeless, watching me struggle. Now that I'm 5 years sober, every time I hear this song I feel terrible about the pain I put my friends & family through, because all I can think about is that one friend's connection to me through this song. Still a great song, and I love the feeling behind it, helps me stay level. | |

pretty sure this is like a sarcastic reply to media, and all the attention he didn't want, as well as a "good bye and good riddance" note to everybody - MEANING: he was done with the fame... In regards to the whole "who killed Kurt" debate - I'm sorry folks, but we'll never know. Speculate all you want, but truth of the matter is, we will never know UNLESS somebody trustworthy & honest comes forward...with tangible proof, and nobody has... It's a shame, but all the same, instead of groaning about the lost talent why not pay your respects decently and just listen to his music instead of trying prove something that you will never be able to prove? Personally, I think it's a matter of bad timing and very shady circumstances. |

| you are definitely on the right track, the occult and powers that be can have extremely significant control over your life & feelings. So yea I agree with you. i think he's also gettin a little frustrated that everybody keeps tellin him he's nuts and it's not real, just in his head cuz it's very real, and most people just dismiss it. | |

The Downward Spiral (the album containing the song Hurt) began at number 2 on the Billboard 200 upon release in '94, and remains the highest selling Nine Inch Nails release in the US. The album also received rankings in Spin Magazine's "100 Greatest Albums, 1985-2005," and in Rolling Stone Magazine's "The 500 Greatest Albums of All Time." I'm sure the fact that there was some recognition means that it was performed convincingly. From my understanding, Trent Reznor (NIN) didn't have everything handed to him. He did have a sheltered childhood, which does not mean he had it easy. I don't disagree with you about Johnny Cash having a hard life, but I'd like to point out that Trent also suffered from depression, and drug abuse, as well as social anxiety disorder. Clearly, if an artist chooses to cover a song, they must have enjoyed it themselves. I would find it an honor for a legendary musician such as Johnny Cash to have covered something I wrote. Johnny Cash did an excellent cover of this song. I think it was an easy, simple, and meaningful song he used to describe his feelings of remorse, recognized by him in the last years of his life. Although their musical styles differ greatly, I do find many similarities. If you had taken the time to do the research instead of bashing the style you don't like, you'd probably understand the song meaning better. | What's really lame is that these are lyrics to a completely different song then what it's titled. | |
